Vampire: the Masquerade 5th edition

TW: terrorism, serial killing, war, personal horror, cosmic horror

Vampire: The Masquerade is a role-playing game set in the World of Darkness - an urban fantasy setting about surviving as a vampire in a modern city. The genre of the game is defined as gothic-punk: the world is dark, there are supernatural things preying on people in the shadows. Money buys everybody, power excuses everything, all hope is lost. Yet you persist. To be humane in such world is a rebellion. Kindness is the new punk. Your characters, Kindred (vampires), have been killed and put back to life as bloodsucking monsters. It's only a question of time until you succumb to the Beast inside you, whispering and whispering the worst and darkest desires you ever had. But until then, you can fight - and fight you will, because of the things you are afraid to lose.

You have lost. You were Embraced only a week ago, to be foot soldiers in the war between the elder beings that call themselves Kindred (vampires, really), and you were Embraced by the wrong side. Your masters called themselves the Sword of Caine, an instrument of his vengeance upon other Kindred. Now they are just ash. Your convoy was struck by drones on the highway between Milan and Rome. Most of your brethren escaped, for they had no loyalty to the monsters that cursed them; all the experienced members of the Sword were finished off by a Kindred ambush. You, however, managed to hide. You remained loyal, even if you don't know the cause you are fighting for: you just know that you fight the System. The only things the elders left you were some notes and a list of targets. Maybe the snake is beheaded; yet the Sword is no mere snake, but a hydra.

Your fight will be desperate. You are not as powerful as your enemies, you don't know as much as they do. You have to fight dirty. You will have to Embrace unwilling civilians to fight for you: they will die, but their numbers will give you an opening. You will cause collateral damage; some might call you terrorists, but you have no other way to fight thousand-year-old monsters. You keep your Humanity. You will have to choose: how much of it are you willing to sacrifice for victory? Such is the life of a Sabbat, a member of Sword of Caine.

The game system supports multiple vampire archetypes:
You can be like Dracula, bound by ancient superstitions.
You can be a Nosferatu—plague-bringer, hideous and terrifying.
You can be a beautiful, extravagant artist.
You can be a punk, robbing people in the streets.
You can feed on animals, like Edward Cullen.
You can choose to feed only on criminals, as defined by your strict moral code.

There are only character creation limits:
1. You are hungry and you drink blood.
2. You are hurt by sunlight.
3. You are new to vampirism.
4. You are willing to fight against powers that be.
