TERM 3 WEEK 33 NEWSLETTER

As term 3 plods on, you’re probably wondering a few things. What exciting things are happening in the society this week? Do we now have a constitution? Why am I asking so many rhetorical questions? Well, I can certainly answer the first two. But first, our big end of term events:

THE WARWICK FRINGE
Friday 22nd June 10:00 to 16:00, MR2 SU HQ
Last year the Fringe was just for performance, but it’s expanded to events as well, so we’re joining in! Come on down for a warm-up to the extravaganza, with wargames, board games and maybe some other games too. (There might also be a special LARP, ooh, more details soon!)

END OF TERM QUIZ
Friday 22nd June 18:00 to 20:00, MR2 SU HQ
It’s Dan’s final outing as Quizmaster Extraordinaire, and it’s gonna be a big one. The exec are currently trying to persuade Dan to do a rap round, and if that’s not gonna persuade you to be there I don’t know what will.

THE EXTRAVAGANZA
Saturday 23rd June 10:00 to Monday 25th June 22:00, H5.45 (Humanities) AND B2.02 (Science Concourse)
Excitement! Intrigue! Large takeaway orders! That’s right, it’s the return of our usual huge tabletop weekend. With exams over you can play all the games you want in an exciting three days of games, who needs sleep anyway. Due to room bookings being difficult, we’re in two different rooms - on Saturday from 10:00 to 18:00 we’re in H5.45 (although we have the room until 22:00 that day), but otherwise we’re in B2.02. We really hope to see you there!

WARGAMES
Monday 17:00 to 22:00, OC1.04 Oculus Building
I don’t know much about Warmachine, but Nigel informs me that the Cinerators seem overpowered in the exemplar CID (Community Integrated Development, so beta testing for balance patches, a cool idea I wish more games would integrate). Oh no! Come to wargames anyway, you can decide if they’re overpowered yourself. Or just play X-wing or Dropzone, that’s cool too!

MAGIC: THE GATHERING
Tuesday 18:00 to 22:00, B2.01 Science Concourse
I’ve been informed that I’m still not understanding Magic correctly, but I won’t let that stop me. It’s time for another Dominaria draft, so it’s time to put your character in defence mode and play Pot Of Greed to draw two cards. At least, I think that’s what the card does, they never really mentioned it in the TV show. Anyway, as per usual it’s £8 (reduced by £2 per pack you supply yourself) with registration closed at 18:30.

BOARDGAMES
Wednesday 14:00 to 22:00, B2.02 Science Concourse
Legend says that on the dawn of the sacred fourth board games session of this term, a new collection of heroes will arise to slay the evil of actually doing work and bring really sweet new board games ...okay, it wasn’t legend, it was just our board games rep Patrick, but it’s nonetheless exciting! Same time, same place as usual.

CASUAL CARD GAMES
Thursday 16:00 to 22:00, B2.02 Science Concourse
Fun tangent: a friend of mine had a D&D character who was obsessed with a game called Sorcery: The Meeting, but I’m informed nobody plays that any more so it’s not at CCGs. Magic, Netrunner and Yu-Gi-Oh are happening though, so come on down for those!

TABLETOP ROLEPLAYING GAMES
Saturday 12:00 to 22:00, Meeting in the Social Sciences Café
In Callum’s exciting one-shot corner, this weekend he’s running Paranoia, a dystopian sci-fi RPG where the Computer oversees all. It’s been described as Monty Python meets George Orwell, and I can’t think of a better combination. Sadly, all of the spaces are filled up, but just like last week I included this because it’s really cool. Unfortunately, there’s been no new one-shot advertised for week 6 due to exams. Otherwise, talk to your GM for more details of when your campaign is running!

LIVE ACTION ROLEPLAYING
Sunday 12:00 to 18:00, OC0.01 Oculus Building
This week our heroes took on a quest to get a volcanic fire fragment, but unfortunately the heat was too much for them and they had a Bad Time (I mean, I can barely get up when it’s like 25°C, let alone adventure in scorching mists so props to them). Fortunately they found an eccentric magician who gave them a cooling aura (probably found some liquid nitrogen I guess) which let them get through the mists. They quickly found a fire fragment and left before the volcano erupted and created a dragon. Seems like a fun quest! There’ll be a LARP session this week as per usual - same time, same place.

WEEKLY NEWS
We managed to reach quorum for our EGM last Wednesday, and after much discussion and various clauses being thrown around we managed to ratify a constitution. Special thanks of course goes to Dan for writing the original draft!
Also, the tickets for the Socs Summer Party are out! As was mentioned last week, the society has been nominated for Most Improved and Callum has been nominated for Outstanding Individual Contribution! Tickets can be bought from the SU’s website (https://www.warwicksu.com/ents/event/16368/).
