TERM 3 WEEK 35 NEWSLETTER

Another week, another newsletter, that is after all the cycle of life. Term 3 continues on, but the newsletter will always be here like a warm hug to keep you going through the week. I hope you enjoyed meeting Finn and Bar last week, maybe they’ll be back some other time! Anyway, events. You’ve seen most of these before, but first, a new(ish) event:

THE WORLD’S LARGEST BLANKET FORT
Wednesday June 20th, 10:00 to 16:00, Oculus field
Eagle-eyed readers may have noticed this mentioned in the Weekly News section last week, but I’m assuming that you’re not all eagle-human hybrids and some useful new details have come in, so we’re bringing it centre stage! On 20th June, a bunch of societies are coming together to raise money for a local homeless shelter by breaking the world record for the largest blanket fort. More details can be found on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/TAGAROPLE/posts/845530868969248), which you should look at if you’re interested - you have to sign up online and then join our society’s group.

THE EXTENDED WEEKEND O’ FUN
I’ve plugged these events enough now that you likely know what’s up, but just as a reminder: * THE WARWICK FRINGE (Friday 22nd June 10:00 to 16:00, MR2 SU HQ): more games, this time in the SU HQ! * END OF TERM QUIZ (Friday 22nd June 18:00 to 20:00, MR2 SU HQ): our usual end-of-term quiz and Dan’s last outing as quizmaster extraordinaire! * THE EXTRAVAGANZA (Saturday 23rd June 10:00 to Monday 25th June 22:00, H5.45 (Humanities) AND B2.02 (Science Concourse)): our usual epic weekend of games!

WARGAMES
Monday 17:00 to 22:00, OC1.04 Oculus Building
X-wing and Warhammer still exist and are cool, I’m informed. I don’t have much to say about wargames this week, however I have received multiple requests to answer a very important question. The membership (well, some of the membership) of the society has spoken, and they want to bring Nigel’s choices to light. This question has plagued us for generations and affects our society right to its core. It brings me great honour to finally uncover this revelation, found only by strong investigative journalism and a hunger for the truth. Yes, Nigel’s favourite colour is orange.

MAGIC: THE GATHERING
Tuesday 18:00 to 22:00, B2.01 Science Concourse
Last week Josh Reiners tried to persuade me that Dominaria was better than Ixalan, despite having fewer dinosaurs in it. In short, the conversation was as follows:
Josh: “Dominaria is so good”
Finnbar: “Ixalan has more dinosaurs in it”
Josh: “But Dominaria has… fungi”
I maintain that dinosaurs are cooler than fungi, but each to their own I guess! Draft is happening as usual: it’s Dominaria, last registration at 18:30 at the usual price of £8, discounted by £2 per pack you provide yourself.

BOARDGAMES
Wednesday 14:00 to 22:00, B2.02 Science Concourse
The excitement of new games has subsided somewhat but Magic Maze and Junkart have definitely earned their place in our board games collection as they’re really good. Nobody’s got the Magic Maze expansion out yet though! Maybe a group of intrepid adventurers will try it out this week. Maybe that group will be you! Ooh, who said these newsletters had to be boring?

CASUAL CARD GAMES
Thursday 16:00 to 22:00, B2.02 Science Concourse
One dream, one soul,
One prize, one goal.
One golden glance of what should be.
It's a kind of Magic. Or Netrunner. Or Yu-Gi-Oh. Come to casual card games for your usual fix of the aforementioned games!

TABLETOP ROLEPLAYING GAMES
Saturday 12:00 to 22:00, Meeting in the Social Sciences Café
There’s not much to say this week as Callum’s One Shot Corner is taking a rest for exams, but as usual, talk to your GMs to work out if/when your campaign is running this week!

LIVE ACTION ROLEPLAYING
Sunday 12:00 to 18:00, OC0.01 Oculus Building
This week the Dramaturgist was performing their greatest work, which is kind of meta because LARP is kind of like a play so there’s a play inside a play? My head hurts.
Anyway, the Dramaturgist must have been going full Shakespeare with the madness of the plot of his play - the prince’s lover had to defeat the three Magistars of power, wisdom and courage. Wait, that’s the triforce, I mean the three Magistars of beasts, fire and mind. It’s an exciting play, I’d recommend looking at the summary of this week’s adventure on the website.

WEEKLY NEWS
I was going to talk about the Socs Summer Party, but the tickets have sold out! Oh well, we’ve got loads of other events running anyway as have been mentioned many times so don’t despair.
For everyone who still has exams, good luck with them! The end is in sight, even if it’s a few weeks away - but there’ll be many events to satisfy the sudden appearance of free time once they’re done!
