TERM 3 WEEK 38 NEWSLETTER

It’s the week you’ve been waiting for - the big extravaganza week! So much is going on that we’ve attached a helpful calendar for you to keep track of what’s happening, as well as the posters from the various events made by the inimitable Ares. This newsletter has even had to be sent out early so you have time to hear about the first event! It’s so exciting I’ve written a haiku:

There are some events
Look, here’s a list of them, wow
Third line of haiku.

BAKE SALE
Monday 18th June, 11:00 until sold out, Physics Concourse
Cake is pretty great, and helping charity is pretty great… why not both? We’ll have cookies, cupcakes, brownies and more on sale on the Physics Concourse, but act quickly as there is only a finite amount of cake! This is to raise money for the LWS Night Shelter and ties into the blanket fort event happening this Wednesday (from 10:00, Oculus Field).

LASERQUEST VS COMPSOC
Thursday 21st June, 18:00 to 21:00 Laser Quest Coventry
This Thursday evening is our chance to defeat Compsoc - it’s all to play for in this epic third round! If you’re on campus there will be a group taking the 12X bus from the Bus Interchange at 16:07 so you can join them if you don’t know where to go. Details can be found on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/events/1706377076135843/).

THE EXTENDED WEEKEND O’ FUN
Oh my goodness these events are actually soon, crazy: * THE WARWICK FRINGE (Friday 22nd June 10:00 to 16:00, MR2 SU HQ): games in the SU HQ! (https://www.facebook.com/events/431375100619726/) * END OF TERM QUIZ (Friday 22nd June 18:00 to 22:00, MR2 SU HQ): get asked difficult questions about things and maybe win prizes! (https://www.facebook.com/events/219869088818631/) * THE EXTRAVAGANZA (Saturday 23rd June 10:00 to Monday 25th June 22:00, starting in H5.45 (Humanities), ending in B2.02 (Science Concourse)): so many games! (https://www.facebook.com/events/391579824689657/). * BORDERLANDS LARP (Saturday 23rd June 12:00 to 16:30, OC0.01 Oculus Building) - it’s a LARP with nerf guns, need I say more. (https://www.facebook.com/events/424066048057926/). * END OF YEAR LARP (Sunday 24th June 12:00 to 18:00, Kenilworth Castle) - the Master has some shenanigans planned, go stop them!

THE AU REVOIR NETRUNNER TOURNAMENT
Thursday 21st June 10:00 to 15:00, starting in R3.25 Ramphal Building
With the Netrunner community suddenly mobilising to keep the game alive (including a new Organised Play initiative run by the community called NISEI), it looks like people are still interested in playing! Which is good, because we’re running a tournament for people of all experience levels - there’s a long (but hopefully useful description) on the Facebook event (https://www.facebook.com/events/183001819030051/).

Now for the usual summaries:

WARGAMES
Monday 17:00 to 22:00, OC1.04 Oculus Building
There was a Terrain Making Day last week, in which we painted up all the craters and some new buildings - so why not come to Monday’s Wargames session to try them out? The usual Warhammer and X-wing games will be happening, and see James’ weekly post in the Wargames Facebook group to find out who will be around to play.

MAGIC: THE GATHERING
Tuesday 18:00 to 22:00, B2.01 Science Concourse
I’m running out of jokes about Magic: The Gathering already, and I’ve written less than an third of the newsletters! All I have left is a quote from Toby saying “I tend to have a Magic joke going - it’s the deck I’m running”, so take from that what you will. :P
Draft is as per usual, Dominaria, £8 reduced by £2 per pack you bring, registration ending at 18:30. I’ve heard there may be a different draft set in week 10, excitingly!

BOARDGAMES
Wednesday 14:00 to 22:00, B2.02 Science Concourse
Last week Mike brought in some cool new games including A Fake Artist Goes To New York, where there was an attempt to collaboratively draw the Millennium Falcon. You can judge it for yourself - just in case you can’t tell, the drawing is on the left. Now I want to play Modern Art with the “masterpieces” from Fake Artist! Anyway, if you want a warm up to the weekend, come on down to B2.02 as per usual for your midweek boardgames fix.

CASUAL CARD GAMES
Thursday 16:00 to 22:00, B2.02 Science Concourse
If you’re less into questing with lasers and more into shooting fireballs or whatever they do in Magic: The Gathering, or if the Netrunner tournament wasn’t enough Netrunner for the day, then good news - the weekly CCGs session is still running! So head there for some cool games of Commander, Netrunner or Yu-Gi-Oh: usual time, usual place.

TABLETOP ROLEPLAYING GAMES
Saturday 12:00 to 22:00, Meeting in the Social Sciences Café
Time and Temp happened this weekend, and my character might have accidentally set a large hotel on fire, but that’s not important. Callum’s launched signups for three one-shots - the cyberpunk RPG The Spawl, the simple and chaotic Everyone Is John and another episode of the dystopian slapstick RPG Paranoia. More details can be found in his Facebook post (https://www.facebook.com/groups/WarwickRPGs/permalink/204520723507440/) with signups on the website!

LIVE ACTION ROLEPLAYING
Sunday 12:00 to 18:00, OC0.01 Oculus Building
Since this newsletter is earlier than usual, I don’t really know what happened at LARP this week. But I’m sure there was something involving a totem of some quality that lead to some kind of difficulty that our heroes had to overcome. Or there were bandits. One of the two. Be less clueless than me by turning up to the two special LARPs this weekend (wow two for the price of one)!

WEEKLY NEWS
We unfortunately didn’t win anything at the Socs Summer Party, but we know in our hearts that we’re still a great society (unrelatedly we’re declaring war on Game of Thrones society) and that Callum is still a great person, so not much has changed really! There’ll be a lot more news next week with the onslaught of events that will have just happened.
