AGM 2025! (Nominate yourself and propose motions here!)

🗳️ 🚨 It's time for another Annual General Meeting! 🚨 🗳️

📆 Date: 19th February (Wednesday Week 7)
🕖 Time: 6-8/9pm
🗺️ Location: B2.02, Science Concourse
🙇 Returning Officer: James (Outgoing VP/Wargs)

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) is the societies most important event of the year. During the AGM a new exec is elected without which all of our events would be unable to run! It is also where members have the opportunity to present motions, which detail how the society is run (more details on this later).

For the AGM to be a success we'll need to reach a certain number for quorum, so it is vital as many people as possible propose motions, run for exec, turn up to the meeting, and vote.

🗃 If you want to know more about how an AGM works, or ask questions related to it, please see the 2025 AGM FAQ thread.

--- 📆 Important Dates 📆 ---

⚠️ Weds 5th Feb: deadline to buy standard membership (and verify it on our website!) for those wishing to vote/stand in election/put forward motions
⚠️ Weds 12th Feb, 12pm: deadline by which constitution-changing motions must be put forward
📢 Weds 12th Feb, (evening): full AGM announcement (including constitution-changing motions) made
🗨️ Weds 19th Feb, 6-8/9pm: AGM takes place!
🗳️ Sat 22nd Feb, 12pm: voting opens
🔒 Tues 25th Feb, 12pm: voting closes
📢 Tues 25th Feb, 3pm: provisional results announced
🎊 Tues 4th Mar, 3pm: provisional period over, results now 100% valid! Yay!

📛 Becoming a member and verifying your membership - it is important you do this very soon!

If you want to run for a position, suggest a motion and/or vote, you must be a member of the society 14 days prior to the vote opening which for this year means by Wednesday 5th February.

If you've already voted on the website before, there's no need to do it again, but anyone who wants to vote for the first time, it's really important that you do this.

In order to do this you must do the following steps:

☑ Requirement for the vote to be valid

Voting will take place between Sat 22nd Feb, 12pm and Tues 25th Feb, 12pm on our website. You do not need to attend the AGM meeting itself to vote, but we highly encourage you to do so, so that you know more about who/what you’re voting for.

Quorum is “a minimum number of votes needed in order for a vote to be valid.” There are 2 quorums we can meet.

For elections and non-Constitution changing motions, quorum is as follows:

a. The first 100 Society or Club members shall be subject to a quorum of 10%.
b. Membership between 101 and 200 inclusive shall be subject to a quorum of 9%.
c. Membership between 201 and 400 inclusive shall be subject to a quorum of 8%.
[...]
g. The quorum calculations in a) – f) are cumulative and the total shall be rounded up to the nearest integer.
h. The minimum quorum for any Society election is 5.

For Constitution changing motions:

  1. The quorum for all Society and Sports Clubs constitution changes shall be the cumulative total of Quorum 1. a) – f) in ‘Club and Society Election Appendix’ multiplied by 1.5 and then rounded up to the nearest whole number.
  2. The minimum quorum for any Society or Sports Club constitution change is 8.

As of 29-01-2025, we have a membership of 161. For this number, our basic quorum is 16; our constitution-changing quorum is 24. I will update this number once our membership count is finalised on Wednesday 5th February.

If we don’t reach the minimum number of votes, the subject of the vote is not valid, and we will likely have to run an EGM (Emergency General Meeting) to perform the vote again, which is not very desirable as it is a further drain on everyone’s time. So, if you can vote, please vote!

Running for exec and proposing motions

I strongly recommend that you read our AGM FAQs for guidelines before nominating yourself or proposing a motion. That is the thread where you should post any questions you have about the AGM; please keep the comments on this thread solely for nominations/motions for ease of organisation.

Exec roles
Exec elections are how we nominate the exec for the next year (until the next AGM rocks around). Candidates will put themselves forward, give a short speech on why they’re a good candidate, take any questions that the attendees have, and then members can vote on who they think is best for the role (after the meeting on our website).

There are a number of exec positions you can run for, our current elected exec roles being:

  • President
  • Vice President
  • Treasurer
  • Communications and Operations Officer
  • Tech Officer
  • Wargames Rep
  • Magic: the Gathering Draft Rep
  • Board Games Rep
  • Collectable Card Games (CCGs) Rep
  • Role-Playing Games (RPGs) Rep
  • Live-Action Role-Playing (LARP) Rep
  • Quartermaster
  • Welfare Officer
  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Officer

Please note that this list may change during an AGM due to motions passed. For anyone wondering about assistant roles, these are not elected at the AGM and will be voted for by the new exec, likely early in term 3.

There are several different ways you can find out more about an exec role:

  1. Talk to the current exec that performs the role! We're open to answer any questions you may have! Contact them through Discord, or find them at an event;
  2. Check out our Exec page, where you can click the “Responsibilities” underneath each bio to see what the role is responsible for doing;
  3. Read the relevant section(s) in our Handover Document, which is a guide written by current exec for future exec to read to learn more about what they’ve got to do, how to do it, and general advice going forward;
  4. Read the newsletter in the lead-up to the AGM! Each week from 3-6 during Term 2, accounts will be given by the current exec on their roles and why you should nominate yourself for that exec role;
  5. Read our Constitution for the very official stance on what each exec is responsible for (warning: may cause brain melt).

📄 Motions

Motions are your chance to officially change things that the Society does in some way or another. They come in 2 flavours: motions that change our Constitution, and motions that do not.

Most motions you propose will require a change/modification to our society constitution, as this lays out how the society conducts its business. You can find the Society Constitution on our website; please make sure you read this before you propose a motion.

If a motion is proposed to make a change to the Society Constitution, we are required to give our members at least 7 days’ notice of this motion. So we ask that you propose any changes to the Society Constitution by midday on Wednesday 12th February to give time for us to write the announcement.

If you like a motion but wish something about it to be changed, you can also suggest an amendment to said motion. The proposer of said motion will be responsible for accepting or declining this amendment.

Examples of previous motions can be found in our forum threads for past AGMs/EGMs, which include motions such as:

  • On the renaming of Casual Card Games to Collectible Card Games
  • On Discord Moderation
  • On the appointed Equal Opportunities and Welfare exec positions
  • On Rule 5 of The Code of Conduct

Here’s an example motion from the FAQs:

On Hats
The Society Notes:
1. That very few members routinely wear hats to games meetings

The Society Believes:
1. That hats are easily and cheaply obtained from many retailers
2. That hats add a jaunty air to proceedings, and encourage good cheer.

The Society Resolves:
1. To require each of our members to wear at least one hat during the boardgames.

🧊 Mascot elections will be conducted in an accompanying thread. More details can be found in said thread.

👇 To nominate yourself for an exec position, propose a motion, second a motion, or suggest an amendment to a motion, please reply to the forum thread below!

On the use of the society Facebook account

Proposer: Holly
Second: Izzy
The Society Notes
1. That the Facebook page has fallen out of use since the launch of our Instagram in May 2023
2. That in the past year there have only been minimal messages to the Facebook, which have been redirected to the discord in order for the correct exec member to be able to assist with the query
3. That posts made since the 2024 Handover have received minimal engagement with followers (this can be extended back to the 2023 handover too, though Holly cannot speak personally on this).

The Society Believes
1. That since the introduction of the Instagram, the Co-Op officer's time would be better spent maintaining the Instagram page and pushing announcements on the Discord, rather than having to also maintain the Facebook.
2. That the Facebook does not add valuable engagement to our overall marketing presence.
3. That the work of previous Co-Op officers should not be entirely lost, and that Facebook content should be respected as efforts of our previous exec.

The Society Resolves
1. To download and archive the current Society Facebook account, give a week of warning to our current followers (along with information of where else to find us) before deleting the Facebook account.
2. To amend the constitution in two instances:
a. Rewrite 4.4.5 (On the role of the Vice President), removing reference of the Facebook, so that it reads:
The Vice President shall assist reps in running or managing relevant online platforms (such as the discord server’s channels for each event.)
b. Rewrite 5.2.3 (On the role of the Communications and Operations officer), replacing the mention of Facebook with Instagram, so that it reads:
The Communications and Operations Officer shall run the Society Instagram account and any other online platforms the society uses. (With assistance from the Vice President as required)

For the uptake and upkeep of sponsors

The Society Notes:
1. That there is potential for more ways in which sponsors can be incentivised to invest into the society.
2. There are fewer sponsors for the society as it stands than there is the potential to be.

The Society Believes:
Gaining sponsors where possible will positively affect the society regarding the capacities of each facet of the society in providing services to members.

The Society Resolves:
That the new exec holds a meeting (frequency to be concluded, either fixed intervals or as required based on the discretion of the President/Vice-President/Treasurer) to discuss and begin implementing additional ways to incentivise the procurement of sponsors for the society / track the progress of sponsor procurement / allocate any additional funds brought in by sponsors.

Hello there, Maddie here. (Maddie Brown on Discord). I am a first year PPE (Philosophy, Politics, Economics) student who is putting themselves forward for the role of:

Treasurer.

Experience of work and the society:

I have been a regular at society events since coming to Warwick, mainly staying till the end of board gaming after a night of sweeping victories (or crushing defeats). I have dabbled with RPGS both in and out of society for the past 3 years, and have been investing time into Warhammer (Army of Chaos) though yet to get them out on the field.

Thus far in the workplace, I have been an all rounder, from week long pet sittings, to event ushering and setup to work with my local council on multiple election days (in 16 hour shifts) and helping teach a class of reception children in July 2024. Collectively, these show my ability to adapt to multifaceted roles, such as that of treasurer, with a strong work ethic, emphasis on organising, running and managing events and a healthy dose of customer service and networking.
In the role personally, I want to expand the search for sponsors, which (if successful) will allow for each facet of the society to expand what they are able to offer to regulars/newcomers.

Additionally, I am currently in the process of obtaining an internship with Santander in either the sector of "Risk and Compliance" or "Corporate and Commercial Banking".

Manifesto:

If I am elected as the Treasurer I will:
1. Carry out the duties of Treasurer as stated in the Constitution and Handover Document, listed non-exhaustively: Overseeing the budget, allocating spending to each facet of the society (with advice from other exec members); looking for new sponsorships and/or continuing existing sponsorships; purchasing merchandise for the society and contributing towards fundraising.
2. Attend and contribute to SU training/meetings in addition to other updates.
3. Support members of the exec in their responsibilities where requested or required.
4. Ensure consistent running of the society, maintaining contact with event reps as needed.
5. Be present as a general point of contact in order to (1) help with any issues/questions (2) for non-members when organising collaborations or welcoming newcomers.
6. Make good on the proposal “For the uptake and upkeep of sponsors” should both myself and the proposal be accepted by the society.

Hey there friends, if you don’t know me from the abundance of newsletter chaos, my name is Holly (She/Her), Kellowdee on the Discord, and I will be running for

President!!!

This society means so much to me, and I’ve loved being a part of it for the last 2 years, so to help it thrive for another year would be so rewarding. I could be sappy and emotional about it all day, but let’s talk about why I’m suited for this role. :)

Qualifications and Experience

  • As Co-Op Officer this year, I’ve remained acutely involved with the society and it's going ons. I've had the pleasure of highlighting the achievements and sharing the joy that people find at society events, and keeping everyone up to date with everything we've got going on! Making the newsletter weekly has kept me (mostly) punctual with posts and keeping to deadlines, and has shown my ability to organise a large amount of information into a small and concise space. Making the minigames has expanded my knowledge of the factions I'm not as involved in, and has allowed me to learn about all the fantastic stuff our members get up to!

  • As Welfare Officer, I've made an active effort to be present at as many termly events as possible, and made sure to be a well-known face to freshers for any help or assistance. I've attended exec and welfare training and have made sure to remain welfare conscientious when approaching any changes or developments the society has considered. Welfare remains consistently at the top of my priorities, whether or not I am welfare officer. <3

  • As an exec member in general, I've attended most exec meetings (scheduling is forever the BBEG) and have made sure to voice any thoughts or concerns raised to me by members. I've worked with my fellow exec to try some new things with the society this year (namely the RPGs Mixers) and support them as they needed, and we've learnt a lot! I've done everything in my power to lift up other members of the exec and celebrate the brilliant things our factions get up to. Tournaments, LARP Quests, Tabletop Weekends, Mixers, Murder Mysteries (COMING SOON SIGN UP HERE), Quizzes. I want to support it all, and continue to support it all!

  • Outside of exec-ness, I've worked a number of part time jobs that have helped me develop my own sense of time management, and the importance of delegation. And as a theatre kid, I am CONSISTENTLY working in teams and listening to the voices of all those around me.

My Manifesto
If elected, I will:

  • Fulfil the duties of the President as laid out by the Constitution and Exec Handover Document - Representing the society in interaction with the SU and other Societies, supporting the exec and setting them up for success, and overseeing the workings of the society to ensure we continue to thrive.

  • Encourage the continued growth and diversification of our society - I will ensure society presence at SU networking events, continue to offer our established society collabs (eg. Game Jams with Game Design) as well as expanding to new pastures (whether this be collaborations with new societies, or collaboration with University fields such as the Tabletop Game Design Module with IATL)

  • Prioritise inclusion and the welcome of new members - Whether it's freshers week or Term 2 Week 5, I will endeavour to make every attendee to our events feel safe and welcome, both by being a welcoming face, but also ensuring our Welfare chain of command and process are accessible and well signposted.

  • Help for more cross faction collaboration - Outside of Tabletop Weekend, I would help set up more social events for all society members to attend, not confined to a single faction activity, allowing for the society to feel like a more cohesive unit.

To Conclude
Co-Op and Welfare has been such a rewarding role for me, and I want to continue to see this society that I know and love thrive. From the moment I joined the Discord the April before I came to Uni (I was eager I know), I felt welcomed and excited by a society that did the thing I didn't have much access to back home. I want to be able to give that back. I want to be a President whose priority is a welcoming space where people can just enjoy some games together. <3 <3 <3

Hello everyone! I am Hugo (He/Him), jukure on Discord, and I will be running for the role of

Board Games Rep!

This is a decision two years in the making folks!

Qualifications and Experience

●As the current Treasurer of the society, I have remained actively involved with the inner workings of the society over the last year. I have conversed with all of the other exec to ensure that each faction received an appropiate amount of funds from our yearly budget, helped them carry out charity events, purchase equipment and many other financial responsibilites that I am still carrying out (Merch still looms over my head...).
●Attended exec meetings through which I have put forwards and have made sure to voice any thoughts or concerns raised to me by members. I've worked with my fellow exec to try some new things with the society this year (namely the RPGs Mixers) and support them as they needed, and we've learnt a lot!
●Taken part in and helped to run Intro to RPGs, Tabletop Weekend, Big RPG, last years Megagame, run our freshers fair stand, and wrote some Quizes.
●I've been a member of the society well over two years, and playing board games is one of my greatest passions in life. I've been taking part in several RPG campaigns during my time here and I plan to start getting into more TCGs . I have also recently gotten off my first game of Twilight Imperium 4th Edition, if that gives me any bonus points!

My Manifesto

If I am elected, I will fulfil the duties of the Board Games Rep as laid out by the Constitution and Exec Handover Document, including but not limited to:
● Running the weekly board games session on Wednesday afternoon, which includes welcoming and teaching new players, as well as ensuring established players are getting games.
● Being responsible for the board games equipment and budget. This includes purchasing new equipment when needed (this includes board games, replacementparts and protective parts, such as sleeves for popular games, as well as storage solutions), Keeping an inventory of board games equipment that the society owns, moving equipment to and from storage, keeping a record of items that have been lent out
● Organises extra board games-themed events, including the tabletop weekends
● Responds to board game related queries from the society’s social medias
● Facilitates ideas and works towards improving any board gaming related activities the society does.

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read my little post. This society has a deep place in my heart and I hope that by undertaking this role, I can give back to the people who have given me a safe and loving space during uni.

Hello fellas, gentleladies and all inbetween! I'm Josh (he/they), 'hey uuuh, it's... it's that guy!' on the discord server, I'm a first year doing Chemistry and I'm running for the role of...

RPGs Rep!!

I have so many ideas my brain is gonna burst and oh my god I may as well commit to the bit with my like 25 hours of RPGs a week oh sweet lord my free time

Experience and RPGs stuff!

  • I've been DMing since I was the ripe age of 12 years.
  • I am currently spending about 24-25 hours a week playing or planning RPGs, including one here at the Uni! Too many ideas... so little time....
  • I've attended some of the public open exec meetings and so have an idea of the way the society runs
  • I partake actively in the community of the society, with RPGs being my main passion, with a recent interest in LARP in particular, and also engaging occasionally with TCGs, mainly MtG, as well as Warhammer 30K & 40K, which I highly encourage people to try! Especially those into RPGs, you should totally try LARP!!
  • I am currently DMing 3 campaigns and playing in 3, across various RPG systems, as well as running one further campaign based on the RPGs system that I made, I encourage people to try making their own!
  • I run a RPGs community currently, with the first session of a large scale campaign having 11 players. I have been running this community for about a year now, having started it when I started my now year and a half running campaign, 'Grasp of Vines'. This used a rudimentary version of the mass scale RPGs system I wish to implement into the society, which has allowed people that have never DMed before to try it, including friends of mine.

The Manifesto!

With all the experience out of the way, I'm gonna get into all the things I'd love to do if I were elected! I've read the handover document and will complete all the duties to the best of my abilities, of course!!
- I will be promoting all RPGs to members of the society, there's so many to get involved in and love!
- I would be responsible for the managing of the RPG kit and the budget for items like dice and books for different RPGs. On top of this, I would prioritise engagement with new systems that allow for greater lengths of creative freedom.
- I would love to increase the frequency of the Intro to RPGs event, or create a similar event to connect the community further.
- I plan to create a society-wide RPG campaign with public lore and story, acting similarly to the LARP system, but in the case of RPGs instead, allowing people to engage with new RPGs in a friendly community, and also allow new people to DM! I will run frequent events based on this, further strengthening the community and integrate the community into the society.
- I'd love to run more frequent events to engage more of the community, and entice new members to join the RPGs section of the society!
- I really want to expand Big RPG, and it will be a huge priority of mine, I think it's a really connective event to bring the community together. I will be trying to possibly band with other local Universities to bring about a bigger community in the local area, such as Coventry and Birmingham Uni.

Thank you everybody!! I absolutely love this society and everybody in it, I want to see everybody have a great time, and have the opportunity to try new systems and RPGs! Thank you :DD

Howdy! I’m Skye, she/they (_skye_reeves_ on discord - I’m a first year maths student and this year I’m running for:

CCGs rep

Experience, what do I know???
- I’ve attended many of the society’s events this year, including running a game for term 2 Intro to RPGs (and playing in term 1), drafting and dropping into board games here and there, and blessing the CCGs session with my presence almost every week since I got here (i think i’ve missed just the one), so I’m familiar with some of how parts the society operate already (I’m everywhere :P).
- I’ve been playing the Pokemon TCG for a good few years (I think it’s 6 active years at this point), and have taught people the game since moving to uni, alongside continuing to play at locals.
- Since moving here I’ve picked up Magic (so like 4/5 months ago), but in that time I’ve introduced much of my friend group to the game, teaching them alongside another friend.
- I’ve also dipped into Netrunner a couple of times also, and most recently Card Wars (tysm Hugo).

Manifesto
If elected, I will:
- Make the weekly reminder announcement on discord, and answer any CCGs related queries on the discord server (or pass them on to those more suited to answer).
- Setup the room for the Thursday session and run the session itself.
- Maintain the friendly and welcoming environment we currently have.
- Greet new players and ensure they find games to play.
- Teach those interested in learning new games (or delegating the teaching if appropriate).
- Expand and update (if needed) the society owned decks.
- Keep track of inventory, making sure that the CCGs equipment is suitably organised, and spending budget where appropriate (i.e. on sleeves and storage solutions).
- Endeavour to get the Pokemon TCG played more within the society as it’s simple to play, but mastering it is difficult and even more fun than learning.

Thank you so much for taking some time to read this! This society has made the jump to living away from family feel like a breeze, ya’ll and the environment you have is truly precious and I can’t wait to make my contribution <3

Hi Everyone, I am German (he/him). German (germantherussian1) on Discord. I am running for

Draft Rep

Experience:
- I have been the draft rep this year and this year, we have gotten a lot of new people and most of them have stuck around and regularly come to draft.
- I have played Magic: The Gathering for 8 years now and have experienced draft in over 20 different magic sets.
- I have also been a part of reorganising the space and helping out with the CCGs inventory and selling off some of it, to replenish the budget to help both draft and CCGs grow.
- I also got more helpful storage solutions for draft which makes it convenient for people to borrow stuff for draft.

Manifesto:
If elected, I will:

  • Implement weekly biscuits for draft.
  • Implement a way for less experienced drafters to learn from more experienced ones and improve their skills.
  • Work with the community on the system the drafts are run (maybe reintroduce prizes if the people wish so, or maybe increase the frequency of fancy sets).
  • Expand the Draft community by increasing advertisement and engagement during the society fair during the freshers week.
  • Possibly affiliate the society with one of the local stores to get official promos and promo packs from Wizards of the Coast.
  • Work with the next communications officer to promote draft and Magic: The Gathering in general to the wider society.

Thank you for reading this! I would like to see society thrive and make more friends in it this time around :)

Hi all, I'm Alex (he/him), fleggy29 on Discord. I'm a 1st year Computer Science Student, and nominating myself for the role of:

RPGs Rep

XP:

  • During Sixth Form I started and ran an RPG club, one session involved GMing 14 people (Warning: Do not try at home).
  • As the "forever" GM, I am used to organising a lot of people, and trying to encounter and use more RPGs.
  • I am currently playing in 2 RPG campaigns and an up-coming one-shot, and I am DMing another (all of them in different systems).
  • I love logistics, organising and stress, which seems to be what is required to run a Big RPG.

Manifesto:

  • I will run events like Intro to RPGs in Terms 1 and 2.
  • I want to run more events like Intro to RPGs, for instance Christmas or Halloween themed events.
  • I REALLY want to run a Big RPG (assignments can definitely wait…).
  • Continue to run RPG mixers to encourage the formation of groups and a place to exchange stories and cool moments.
  • Try to run more collaborations with other societies like Game Design society (to help get people involved with GMing and honing their craft).
  • Support and show where to get support for new people just entering the hobby, and society.
  • Keep my Discord notifications on for procrastinating coursework (read: booking rooms for rpg games).
  • Look out for new RPGs and suggestions for the society to purchase.
  • Try and entice more people (including myself) to try out more factions of the society.

Thank you for considering me, I hope to grow the RPG faction to new heights!

Hello, my name is Jasper (although occasionally my name will be down as Alex because changing your name is complicated and hard and I haven’t got round to it yet. But you shouldn't call me that because that is not my name) and my pronouns are they/them or it/its. I am here to run for:

Quartermaster

Experience

I have been attending LARP weekly for nearly a year and a half, and I have served as the LARP Quartermaster for over a year. Over the course of my tenure as Quartermaster, I have ensured that our clothes are clean on a weekly basis (successfully avoiding the mould apocalypse), maintained the LARP weapons, purchased new LARP kit, packed the LARP cupboard (there’s a Specific System), ran sessions when our LARP rep Sam wasn’t there, and helped to write many of the LARP sessions (including the upcoming murder mystery, which will be happening on the saturday of Week 7 and you should sign up for it incidentally enough. I also did fulfill my life goal of introducing robots into LARP, which isn’t really relevant but is fun.

As Quartermaster I will:

  • Continually maintain the LARP kit to ensure that everyone at LARP can have a fun and safe time
  • Help out the LARP rep in whatever way they need (such as running sessions in their absence, or helping to write the quests/stories)
  • Work to keep LARP a welcoming space for all LARPers
  • Encourage new people to join LARP
  • Help out other exec with their responsibilities
  • Finally determine once and for all whether it should be spelt as “LARP” or “larp”. This wouldn’t really affect anything but it’s annoying to me personally.

Hello yet again! I am here (a final time, I promise I'm not running for the entire exec) to announce my running for:

Wargames Rep!

Why should you choose me for this role?

I've been involved with Tabletop society as an exec member for almost a year now and am confident in running and advertising events. I have always had an interest in Wargames - during sixth form, I assisted in running my school's Warhammer club, which I had been involved in since year 8. On top of this, I enjoy the painting and model-making aspect and want to bring more games and more focus on different games to the society.

I also know I can definitely carry the suitcases.

My Manifesto
If you elect me as your Wargames Rep, I will:
- Endeavour to get more people involved in Wargs as a faction, such as by running more intro events (the current placement of freshers Monday makes it difficult for people to get involved), making it clearer what Wargs involve to beginners, and pushing to advertise it more. (So maybe, if you're reading, come to Wargs :P)
- Run more special events, such as bringing back painting competitions, and continuing to run tournaments during Tabletop Weekends
- Encourage more different games to be played. As much as I and many of us love Warhammer, there are many other awesome Wargames out there that would be great to bring to the society.

Thank you for reading my manifesto, and I hope you consider me for your next Wargames Rep! :)

Hi all! I'm back and this time to announce that I will be running for:

Vice President

Experience:
I've been actively involved with the society for the past couple years, going to all of the events I can physically make it to, and serving as the RPG's rep. That probably means you've seen me in the discord nagging people to sign up to Intro to RPG's or in DMs about room bookings...

Having been on the Exec this year, I have a great understanding of what running the society entails. I am organised and enjoy speaking infront of people (this should help with exec meetings). I hope that I come off as welcoming and friendly, as my love for the society and the people in it mean that I would love to be more involved in managing/running behind the scenes.

Specifically for Vice President, my room booking experience should come in handy (my patience for that website is unparalelled) for the next year. I have also already attended Active Bystander and Socs Assembly so am prepared for what those entail.

Manifesto:
If I am elected Vice President I will:

  • Carry out the duties of Vice President as stated in the Constitution and Handover Document, including running and organisation of exec meetings (I love making powerpoints), room bookinds and helping to organise other events/ general admin.
  • Continue to attend SU training and meetings/ other updates.
  • Support the president with their activites.
  • Be vigilant in ensuring that all aspects of the society continue to run smoothly, acting as communication between faction reps.
  • Be present as a point of contact for the society, to help members with queries and problems, as well as helping to organise collaborations. This is specifically really important to me, as this year I've done my best to organise a few extra RPG's events, and me and some of the other exec have been workshopping ideas to bring the factions closer together, as something I am passionate about is the cross-linking of the internal society, as well as making sure that our collabs are benificial to both parties (and they're not just using us for our boardgames).

Thankyou for reading my manifesto <3

Hello. I am Alfie Giffen (@bongo50 on Discord), a first year maths student, and I would like to run for Tech Officer.

Experience:

  • The Tabletop Games and Roleplaying Society has been one of my favourite societies since joining the university at the start of this year and I have attended quite a lot of its events.
  • I have some level of interest or involvement with most of the society's factions. I'm at LARP and boardgames almost every week. I've also participated in both Intro to RPGs events this year (although I sadly do not currently have time for any more RPGs than an occasional one-shot), and been to Wargames twice (I do intend to go more, and I have done quite a bit of Warhammer before coming to university). I've not yet got involved with any CCGs or draft events, but I have played MtG and collected Pokémon TCG cards before so I'm not clueless in these areas.
  • I have experience running society websites as I am currently one of the people responsible for the Warwick Maths Society website (for example, I've written almost all of the recent weekly update posts).
  • I have experience running other websites as well. In particular, I'm one of a few people responsible for operating Tardis Wiki, the independent Doctor Who wiki.
  • I have plenty of programming experience, including both Python (what the website uses) and Haskell (what Tablebot uses). (For transparency, I do not have any specific experience with Django, the specific Python framework used by the website, but I'd love to learn it. Moreover, I am quite new to Haskell as I have been learning it through the module CS141 Functional Programming this term but, by the end of the term (when the module is finished), I should hopefully be competent enough to work on Tablebot).
  • I also know HTML, CSS and (some) JavaScript which are also all used to some extent by the website, as well as Markdown (although that's not particularly hard). (Again, to be transparent, I do not know SASS, the specific extension of CSS that the website uses, but I'd really like to learn it).
  • I have experience with domain registration (I manage the domains for both websites mentioned above). This isn't particularly hard, but I thought I'd mention it.
  • I have some experience with databases and SQL if necessary.
  • I have experience with GitHub, the website used to host the code for both the website and Tablebot. (If anyone wishes to scrutinise my GitHub contributions, you may do so here).
  • I have experience in managing/moderating Discord servers. Most notably, I'm the current owner of the Warwick Maths Freshers 2024/25 Discord server (this server could really do with a better name).
  • I have a small amount of experience with creating and managing Discord bots.
  • It's not a particularly hard thing, but I have experience with all of the Google services used by the society.
  • I have read all relevant parts of the society constituion and handover document (and many much less relevant parts as well), and I've also read all of the Discord Moderation Guidelines, How To Website Really Good and How To Tablebot Really Good.

What I will do if elected:

  • I would of course perform all of the tasks and responsibilities laid out in the constitution and handover document.
  • I would like to develop the website a little bit, particularly to improve some exec quality of life stuff. For example, it is my understanding that deleting items from an inventory currently has to be done via the admin panel. I would like to make this doable from the website frontend as well. Little things like that are what I mean here.
  • I'd be happy to look into any large features that anyone desires, although the website seems pretty good to me currently.
  • I'd also like to work on Tablebot a bit to see if I can get it used a bit more frequently. Things I would like to consider include making a quotes channel which Tablebot can read and use to expand its quotes database (as a potentially more natural alternative to the existing command), and adding some integration with the society website (like searching the boardgames inventory). I'm really enjoying learning Haskell at the moment so, on a personal level, working on this bot a bit seems like a great way to keep learning and using it.
  • I'd also be happy to assist in any other ways, such as helping out in larger events (e.g. Tabletop Weekend, which I'd likely be at anyway), or helping out at the society's Welcome Week and open day stalls. Note that I wouldn't be able to assist with watching B2.02 during LARP as I participate in LARP.

This was quite long, so sorry about that. If you have any questions, feel free to message me anywhere where I can be messaged (e.g. Discord or the website).
