TERM 1 WEEK 9 NEWSLETTER

Hello,
It’s all happening this week, with a special boardgames collaboration on Wednesday, quiz on Friday, 40K apocalypse on Saturday, end of term LARP on Sunday, and the end of term Tabletop Weekend form Saturday morning to Sunday night!

END OF TERM QUIZ
Friday 1st of December, 18:00, OC0.01 Oculus
This Friday will be our end of term quiz, so don’t miss out on this chance to prove your superior intellect over your fellow society member and walk away with some amazing prizes. There will rounds covering a range of diverse topics from music to the Star Wars prequels, so you really will be tested. As is tradition this will be followed by a pub social afterwards. https://www.facebook.com/events/1975834212741702/

TABLETOP WEEKEND
10:00 Saturday 2nd to 22:00 Sunday 3rd of December, B2.02 Science Concourse
The second tabletop weekend is here and it’s going to be better than ever. With more emphasis on all parts of the society, I’m hoping to see wargames and card games aplenty as well boardgames late into the night (and then straight through the night into the next morning). Just like the last one this will be running continuously for 36 hours starting at 10am on the Saturday morning and finishing at 10pm on the Sunday night. https://www.facebook.com/events/152322172184559/

WARHAMMER 40,000 APOCALYPSE
Saturday 2nd December, 10:00, B2.01 Science Concourse
The apocalypse is this Saturday! The end is nigh! That’s right, it’s the end of term 40K apocalypse game this Saturday at 10am in B2.01 (what else could I have possibly meant). This will be a massive daylong event with 3000pts per player with a limit of one lord of war. So, whether you want to help defend the imperium or crush it under your corrupted boot, be there.

BOARDGAMES WITH MIND AWARE
Wednesday 29th November, 16:00 to 18:00, B2.02 Science Concourse
This Wednesday’s boardgames event will be an extra special one as we will be co-hosting it with Mind Aware. This will be the normal weekly boardgames event you all know and love running for the usual 8 hours with the added bonus of providing a relaxed atmosphere and friendly advice on dealing with deadline stress. https://www.facebook.com/events/304801996683545/

WARGAMING
Monday 17:00 to 22:00, OC1.04 Oculus
What better way to start the most action packed week of term than with some action packed wargames. As always, there will be games of 40K, Warmahordes, X-wing, and Dropzone. And if you feel like bringing something else then post in our wargames group linked at the end of the newsletter, I’m sure someone will be up for a game of it.

MAGIC: THE GATHERING
Tuesday 18:00 to 22:00, R0.14 Ramphal Building
It may be a hectic week with deadlines fast approaching as well as events running everyday but surely you can still find some time for draft (there are only 2 left this term after all). By now those patient people who have been saving up their packs can probably start trading them in for a free draft or even just a price decrease as every pack contributed knocks £2 off entry. 7pm draft start as usual.

BOARDGAMES
Wednesday 14:00 to 22:00, B2.02 Science Concourse
Last Wednesday’s board games session saw yet more raving madness from me, your lovable Communications officer Scottish John. More people got to experience my wonderful maths-based quiz from last year, I got to confuse people who had never played Spyfall before, what’s not to love? This week, we will be hosting a collaboration with Warwick Mind-aware from 4-6, to demonstrate the mental health gains of a social games event like this – something our regular members are no doubt already reaping the benefits of! See above for details.

CASUAL CARD GAMES
Thursday 16:00 to 22:00, WA0.15 Avon Building Westwood
Proxied legacy has proven popular enough to spill over in to boardgames and I know I’m going to get a deck ready for Tabletop Weekend, so if you are wanting an edge on the compaction Casual Cards Games is the place to get in some matches. The same applies to Netrunner and Yu-Gi-Oh, Thursdays really is the best day to test those sweet brews you’ve been working on.

TABLETOP ROLEPLAYING GAMES
Saturday 12:00 to 22:00, Meeting in the Social Sciences Café
It’s the tabletop weekend this Saturday (just in case you didn’t know) but that doesn’t mean that RPGs will take a back seat, so make sure and keep in touch with your DM for all the details. If you are still looking for a campaign then there is still space on the sign-up page for Out of the Abyss, the 5th ed D&D game announced last week.

LIVE ACTION ROLEPLAYING
Sunday 12:00 to 18:00, OC0.01 Oculus
It’s the end of term LARP on Sunday so expect something special. If you have been turning up every week then you probably can’t wait to see what surprises James has is store for you. If you haven’t turned up before then this is the week to come as the more people the more epic the encounters can be (and remember absolutely no experience or equipment is required). We will be meeting as usual in the oculus at 12noon.

WEEKLY NEWS
Today was a special Call of Cuthulu LARP replacing the standard adventure in the woods with a more sinister affair in the dreaded humanities building. What with Evil twins, a dog blood animated mini golem, hidden rituals and secrets, necromancy, and giant birds destroying the house it may all have seemed a bit bleak. However, in the end everything worked out and the murderer’s souls was saved by her loving brother.
In other news, we now have custom dice available for our members with official branding. So, if you have purchased membership and want to get your hands on one of theses then simply approach a Rep and one of our many events.
