π£ The AGM - More Exec Roles
Just a reminder this week, as I will continue to do every week for the foreseeable future, the AGM is on the 2nd of March, in B2.02, from 7-9pm - if you want to find out more check out the forum thread.
This week we've mined into a vein of deep exec lore and have found the secrets of the Vice President and Treasurer.
First up - The Vice President:
- Books rooms at the start of the year, and ad-hoc as needed throughout the year.
- Organises, runs, and minutes exec meetings.
- Takes responsibility for various admin duties within the Society, including but not limited to:
- Maintaining the society google account in cooperation with the Web Admin, including the drive and calendar.
- Applying for the Societies Fair table.
- Assisting the co-op, web admin, and faction exec in keeping our various social media outlets up to date (Facebook page and groups, website, and Discord.
- Alongside the President, should represent the society at relevant SU events.
- Is responsible for organising and running the termly Quiz.
- Is responsible for organising the AGM in Term 2, and any EGMs that might happen.
Ares' Testimony:
Hello y'all, this is Ares, your current Vice President, here to tell y'all a little bit about the role. VP is very much the glue that keeps all the bits of the society together in one cohesive blob. You work behind the scenes to make sure all the exec are doing their jobs, that the admin necessary to run the Society is done on time, and you bring everyone together in fortnightly meetings to keep everything on track. If you're someone who's not high on heading a weekly event, and you want to flex your godly organisation skills, this role may be for you! That's not to say you don't get a taste of event-running fun if you want it though, as each term you'll embark on the quest of organising the Quiz. Overall, it's a role that demands a non-negligible amount of time and self-motivation, good organisation, and attentiveness, so please do keep that in mind. If you've got any questions about the role, feel free to drop me a line on Discord (

The Treasurer
- Is responsible for the society bank account.
- Oversees the budget by allocating spending amounts to each faction of the society and making sure they donβt overspend.
- Approves or declines purchases from the other exec members.
- Approves online monetary reimbursement forms when purchases have been made.
- Is responsible for organising the application for the start-of-year society grant from the SU.
- Is responsible for sponsorships:
- Looks for new sponsorships.
- Makes sure our ongoing sponsorships are upheld.
- Is responsible for any merchandise sold by the society:
- This includes, but is not limited to: society hoodies, society dice, and pin badges
- Responsible for liaising with the SU to set up order forms
- Is responsible for overseeing the ticketing and budgeting for any big event the society might run.
- Is responsible for any fundraising the society might choose to do; this includes fundraising for charity or for the society itself.
Ike's Testimony:
As the Treasurer, you manage the society's finances, merchandise and sponsorships. That means communicating with faction leaders, the SU and third parties. You'll have to check and approve each purchase the society makes, apply for the SU grant to ensure the society has money and manage the purchase of merchandise. It can be a lot of work at once, but ultimately its necessary for the society to function and very rewarding.
π² Board Games Weekend!
Board Games Weekend is this coming weekend! We're in B2.04/5 from 10am Saturday to 10pm Sunday! Whether you want to use the chance to play a longer game, or just catch up with friends over games of Skull defined primarily by hubris, this is your chance! If you do want to run longer games, we suggest organising them in advance, possibly on our website, to be sure you'll get players.
π¨ Merch Update π¨
Finnbar, still fleeing from a bear following the events of the end of their newsletter career and the mascot thread, runs into the room to deliver the merch update.
wee woo merch update
Both sets of stickers have arrived, and are stored on campus!
The regular 3D logos will be available from Wednesday! (Finnbar is collecting them on Tuesday evening)
Badges should be available from the end of the week!
oow eew end of merch update
They make to exit stage right, the sound of growling is heard, and they quickly pivot and exit stage left instead.
π Exec Meeting!
We're having our next exec meeting on Discord, from 5-6pm, on Friday. This will be hosted/run by Scarlett, because Ares is doing important astrophysics things like "looking at space" that can only be done at night, and so they're currently nocturnal.

π What happened last week? π
In Everdell, Tim managed to use the powers granted to him as the Lawful Tim or just plain luck to build a castle before Spring. I am reliably informed that this is "apparently kind of difficult." For those who don't know, I will now provide a complete, total, and flawless explanation of the premise of Everdell. I have never actually played Everdell but that just means I'm not biased by the mechanics getting in the way of the lore:
Everdell is a game about a giant tree. Every so often, said giant tree spends a year slowly awakening, before destroying the most powerful fragment of civilisation near it. You play as tiny animal bureaucrats who, after having to stand in line for five minutes too long in a coffee shop when the tree starts waking up in mid-winter, decide you've each had enough with your respective burgeoning cities, and spend your time building up things that make it unique and thus draw the attention of the tree so you can finally skip the queue, by building structures and recruiting friends for your great endeavour. In the photo, we can see that Tim is trying to lure it in with the promise of a fully functioning, rebuilt, Castle next to the Ruins of the original (complete with a King), while he's also acquired a Peddler to supply tourists with food and a Postal Pigeon to spread the words far and wide.
At CCGs, crimes against Netrunner were committed as 11 points were forfeited in one game and 14 Steve triggers through a Bran, meaning approximately (insert sounds of a Hannah doing mental maths here) 20 cards were yote into the shadow realm. Unlike certain other games (looking at you with respect and also fear EDH players), it's kind of weird when a fair chunk of each player's deck is removed from the game.
Extra Bonus End Bit
Time for me to continue putting off the problem of/resisting the urge to just speedrun(delete as appropriate) turning this into a cohesive RPG. Anyway, this apparently has to become a Young Adult crime drama. Since I think calling the Blades in the Dark game I'm in YA would lead to me being sued by at least three different parents and Lewis, (though that said, CHERUB apparently qualifies as YA), this may take a bit of thought.
Wash your hands, stay safe, and come play some games with us π
