Some people might say "Hannah using wordle as a diary is unlikely to get you results" but can they argue with the evidence?

📣 AGM - Board Games and Wargames reps
Just a reminder this week, as I will continue to do every week for the foreseeable future, the AGM is on the 2nd of March, in B2.02, from 7-9pm - remember, you need membership two weeks beforehand to vote!!! - if you want to find out more about the AGM check out the forum thread.
This week, we're looking at the first of the faction reps, the Wargames and Board Games reps.
Wargames Rep Duties:
- Runs the weekly wargames session on Monday evening
- This includes welcoming and teaching new players, as well as ensuring established players are getting games.
- Is responsible for the wargames equipment and budget. This includes:
- Purchasing new equipment when needed (this includes minis, armies, terrain, playmats)
- Keeping an inventory of wargames equipment that the society owns
- Moving equipment to and from storage
- Runs extra wargames-themed events, including:
- Tournaments, during sessions or as standalone events
- Terrain making and/or painting sessions
- Runs the wargames Facebook group
- Makes the weekly “who’s bringing what” announcement
- Facilitates ideas and works towards improving any wargaming related activities the society does.
Jon's testimony:
I’ve been the society Wargames Rep for three years now. I’m just gonna outline a couple of my favourite aspects of this role.
The biggest part is of course, getting to organise and run the events. From our Monday Wargames sessions to termly special events, it’s just great fun seeing people enjoy the hobby. The larger gaming events give the chance to see people’s collections in full, and terrain-making days allow us to personalise the terrain that we play on.
Managing the society equipment is also really rewarding. With a full cupboard of mats, armies, and crafting supplies there’s always something to optimise, source, or repair. While maintaining and expanding this collection, you have freedom to seek out additions so that we may better support newer players who may not have bought into any specific game, or introduce existing players to other systems they might not have otherwise tried.
If you are concerned about the time commitment, you needn’t worry. You do not need to play every single week, I have spend many Mondays doing essay work to the backdrop of dice and measuring tapes. The role is one of bringing people together, and providing a place and the equipment to enjoy the hobby.
If you’re considering running for the position, I (@Nahjo_Che#2025) would be happy to answer any questions you have. See you at the AGM!
Board Games Rep Duties:
- Runs the weekly board games session on Wednesday afternoon.
- This includes welcoming and teaching new players, as well as ensuring established players are getting games.
- Is responsible for the board games equipment and budget. This includes:
- Purchasing new equipment when needed (this includes board games, replacement parts and protective parts, such as sleeves for popular games, as well as storage solutions)
- Keeping an inventory of board games equipment that the society owns
- Moving equipment to and from storage
- Keeping a record of items that have been lent out
- Runs extra board games-themed events, including:
- The board games and tabletop weekends
- Runs the board games Facebook group
- Facilitates ideas and works towards improving any board gaming related activities the society does.
Alex's Testimony:
Hey all, it’s me, Alex. Your friendly neighbourhood Board Games Rep. My main job is making sure Board Games happens on a Wednesday, which involves a surprising amount of manual labour. I’m also responsible for teaching stuff (various Board Games), buying stuff (new Board Games for the society) and emailing stuff (mostly to our sponsor Zatu Games). Overall, my time as Board Games Rep has been very rewarding and I’ve made a lot of friends from the whole experience, I’d recommend anyone to give it a go if they don’t mind sacrificing their Wednesday afternoon every week.
If you’ve got any questions, feel free to ask me on Discord (Alder#9444) and no other social media because I’m a gremlin and probably won’t respond. (But srsly run for Board Games rep it be fun).
🎲 Game Design Collab
We have a game jam in collaboration with Game Design over this coming weekend in MB0.08. On the Friday at 5pm there will be a quick talk for 30-60 minutes about game design, followed by the theme being revealed at 6. After that, you have until 5pm Sunday to design your game (we have the room booked 5-10pm Friday, 9am-10pm Saturday, and 9am-8pm Sunday) - then from 5pm-8pm we'll be playtesting!
Don't feel you have to be there the whole time, but if you've ever been at all curious about making a game, why not come along for a low-stakes environment to try stuff out in? Also, if you're just a board gamer and not a designer, you could even come along just to playtest.
🐉🛸 Fantasy+Sci Fi Soc Collab
We're planning a trip to an escape room with Fantasy & Sci-Fi Soc over the Week 6 weekend, we'll have more details next week!

💭 What happened last week? 💭
Literally nothing at all happened, the highlights channel is the one source of truth and it holds no secrets for me this week.
Ok that's not true a few of the gremlins in #netrunner and I did a lot of work on the Netrunner un-set we're designing. For those who don't know, an un-set is a set designed to have jokey cards that don't fully have to work within the rules as long as they can be understood perfectly normal cards such as everyone's favourite Netrunner, Pikachu!
(Yes this is an actual card in the set. Blame Finnbar.)
Extra Bonus End Bit
I'm back on my RPG designing shenanigans and it's time to roll for RULES TOYS! Everyone's favourite way to make your RPG weird and funky. We have (drum roll please)... Divination (as in, use of real-world, subjective, interpretation of symbols, like Tarot) and Adverse Advancement (as part of levelling up, some or all abilities get worse, riskier, etc). Since I still can't find my tarot deck, I'm resolving right now to make the first Dixit-based RPG. This definitely won't come back to bite me in two weeks time when I move from "hehe rolling on tables" to "oh no I have to turn this into a game"
Wash your hands, stay safe, and come play some games with us 💛
