π§ β Quiz results
The Quiz was a fantastic time on Friday, on a personal note I think it's genuinely the most fun I've had at a tabletop quiz yet so huge congrats and thanks to Fern for organising, as well as to all the round runners for some spectacular and very amusing rounds!
The scores were tied three ways heading into the final round so it was all to play for as we had to Rules Lawyer our way through a page of DnD 5e combat, courtesy of Alvis. In the end it was a close run thing but Team "Team Name (Gone Wrong) Not Clickbait" just eked out a victory with 39 points! Congratulations to them(/us because I was on that team - sidenote it is quite weird to write about an event that you won but most of the credit truly goes to my fantastic teammates so big thanks and congrats to Ben, Lawful Tim, and Anakin!)!

π What happened last week? π
Netrunner Unset update (with thanks to Finnbar for writing this):
Yesterday, we ran our third (!!!) Netrunner unset draft. Tim was declared Best at Unset (thus putting me back into my usual position of Tournament Bridesmaid, always doomed to be second) by being the best at jigsaw puzzles (kind of) and theft (also kind of). Other highlights include:
- A small stack of dice being put onto space elevators (pictured).
- Multiple players doing a bunch of favours for eldritch gods, and only some of them actually cashed out on said favours by having eldritch deities go "that's where the agenda is" and asking my favourite little guy Grumpus to trash some things.
- Fern getting a grand total of two turns over two games with one of her decks.
- pikachu and bones bones bones bones
-
Having to add a real Netrunner card to the cube when we found out that we were one card short.
-
basically yeah it was good and the set is becoming closer to being Finishedβ’
Last Week in LARP:
To give the spirit (haha) of what happened Last Week in LARP, I will transcribe the letter that the party found on a body in an inn (that turned out to be a ghoul): Dear Lupan Spies/Educated Ghouls/The Hellenite Inquisition/Archbaron Winter/The King's Tax Agents, No doubt you have entered this room looking for King Gustavus II. Unfortunately, you gormless rubes, he has already been transported to a secure location and my scheme is already too far underway for you to halt it (my scheme of course being to restore the full and proper honour of the Kitaland Monarchy).
In conclusion, get fucked. Yours respectfully, a Genius.
P.S. Do you know how hard it is to set up a ghoul-based trap when they keep trying to eat your assistants?
Summary of the Warhammer event (with thanks to Reylynn for writing):
For this Tabletop Weekend we had a cooperative event, the "Battle for Tetryion Quintus". Originally we were set to have 2 players per team, but numbers worked out best for a 3v3 game at 1250 points per army. In total this meant each team had 3750 points and 27 Command Points to spend. This is the largest game of 40K we've held at the soc (the exec claimed this and that's what matters) and saw World Eaters, Black Legion and Blood Angels wage war against Khorne Daemons, Night Lords and... also Blood Angels.
Here we see the Aftermath of a brutal fight phase from my Warp Talons. With all kinds of rerolls, bonuses and other stuff they dealt 20+ wounds and instantly killed a Bloodthirster! (The big red guy in the bottom left of the first image.) This was incredible for all of us at the table, and reminded me of how much I love rolling buckets of dice.
Later on the same front I tried to cast a power spell with my psyker wizard and suffered "Perils of the Warp" miscast meaning his head exploded. This dealt lots of damage to everything around him, but with very lucky rolling it did no damage to my team and significant damage to the enemy. There's a moral to be made out of persevering failure to achieve greater success but I personally don't think the society can or should condone trying to get your head to explode.
At the end of it the game was won for the World Eaters, Black Legion and Blood Angels. But in truth we all enjoyed ourselves so much that we all won together (theoretically). Next term our Wargs exec are looking to support the mid-level play of Incursion (1000pts) as we all collect together, so please feel free to check it out if you'd ever want to experience this kind of chaos in the future!
Congratulations to the winners of the mini painting competition that happened over tabletop weekend:
- Beginner winner: Liamβs Alpha Legion Havocs
- Intermediate winner: Scarlett's Brurax, Dark Apostle of the Black Legion and Viktor the exalted champion
Extra Bonus End Bit
Roll tables I have considered crafting but for various reasons, probably should not write:
- Chaotic Top Surgery scar patterns
- [Redacted under Rule 5 of Code of Conduct]
- A list of the ways you self-sabotage so upsettingly visceral and true that youβll reevaluate your whole life (be kind to yourself, you do in fact deserve it)
- Best ways to style crocs (#notspon but also crocs rock and I will not be taking comments or critique)
- Topics I've considered using for my dissertation but have decided against and so I want you to use them in your dissertation instead
- Fanfiction tags I would immediately click on
Wash your hands, stay safe, and come play some games with us π
