βΌοΈ Spotlight on: Treasurer and Co-Op Officer!
- π Friday 24th February
- π 7-10pm
- πΊ B2.02
As promised last week, I will keep plugging the AGM as it is really crucial to the society's continued existence which you're all hopefully at least a little invested in. This week, as you can see, we have a cool poster to entice you further. I'll also leave the link to getting soc membership here just in case you haven't already got it (because you need it to both stand for exec and also to vote for motions/exec!).
Read on to get a flavour of what it's like to be Treasurer and Co-Op Officer!
TREASURER
Edward here. So, you want to know about being treasurer (I say, sitting backwards in a chair). As the society treasurer, youβre responsible for everything money related in the society, and manage the society bank account.
First things first, you compile and submit the grant request that gets us our annual budget from the SU - the society purchases a variety of new games and equipment every year, and plans for such need to be outlined so that weβre given the money to do so. You also allocate budget to each faction for them to spend throughout the year, and manage the money tracking system.
Anytime anyone makes a purchase on behalf of the society, you have to check and approve of their request, for it to be sent to the SU. All purchases, except those you make, must go through you first. Similarly, big ticketed events need you to manage the cost of tickets and submit another document to the SU about total costs and anticipated income for expected attendance levels.
Furthermore, the societyβs annual merchandise sale comes under your jurisdiction - this involves surveying members to ascertain which items are feasible to offer, setting up the orders from the constituent suppliers and the pages for members to buy the merch on the SU site. This is a big process.
On top of those, the remaining responsibilities are to manage fundraisers, such as our yearly Tabletop Radio, and seeking additional sponsorships, to aid our running of the society.
Donβt hesitate to message me on the Discord (

) if you have any outstanding questions on the role - itβs not as scary as it sounds to be in charge of all the money!
CO-OP OFFICER
Omg hi! Fancy seeing you here! It's me, Lils, here to tell you why being Co-Op officer is cool and fun and why you should run for it if you're interested!
Co-Op stands for Communications and Operations which, I'll be honest, is still quite vague. In practice, this role is all about conveying important information, namely about various events, from the exec team to the society at large to ensure that the events actually have people turn up and enjoy themselves! This involves a solid amount of writing, both in the form of the newsletter and in various announcements posted to the discord, but the fun bit is that there's plenty of scope for you to add in your own personality
and punsand make things your own!As Co-Op Officer, you're also expected to help out with the array of bigger events that the society runs (such as Tabletop Radio, Tabletop Weekend, etc) which I've found to be super fun as most of the time it just means you get to spend more time at events you were already planning on going to!
I would say that key skills for Co-Op Officer include an enthusiasm for hyperlinks, keeping up to date on all the society events so you can summarise them in an accurate and timely manner, and an ability to write at least a few words at a time once a week!
The other exec are there to help provide info on any events that you're less familiar with (I don't know if you can tell but I've never so much as held a CCG card in my life), as well as to proofread the newsletter and any announcements you write, so you're never on you're own and you're absolutely not expected to be some sort of expert writer or grammar deity. (If you are a grammar deity that's cool though, are your followers called apostle-trophes?)
Feel free to yeet me a message on Discord (

π¦ Mascot nominations are open!
Do you have the next big idea for what Tabletop Soc should worship revere gift its highest honour in the form of mascotship? If so, I have great news as the thread for Mascot nominations is open and can be found on the website via this link.
What is the Tabletop Soc Mascot?
The Mascot is a role that, whilst technically elected at the AGM, has absolutely no powers to do anything within the society, hence why they have previously been inanimate objects and/or abstract concepts.
How do I nominate one?
You can nominate anything that you deem worthy of consideration for mascot by making a short post explaining your reasoning to this thread on the website. The purpose of the thread is to help everybody familiarise themselves with the nominees before the AGM.
How does the mascot election work?
The mascot election occurs during the AGM itself, as a series of breaks between the other proceedings, in the form of a single-elimination tournament, during which mascots will randomly be pitted head to head and eliminated one by one until a winner remains.

π What happened last week? π
According to Jon and Reylynn, Wild Magic was the cause of "18 beavers (with malicious intent), a bemused bear, and 24 tons of moss underfoot."
From Ben:
The Demonic Yearbook, as compiled (in a not-at-all biased fashion) by the Horned King (Tremble and QUAKE before me, ye mortals):
- Most Demony: The One
- Best Laugh: The One Who Laughs
- Demonic Clown: The One Who Laughs
- Cutest Couple: (a scribbled note saying what is cute?)
- Most Stabby: The Knife
- Most Likely To Be Purged by the Solar Inquisition: 100000000000000000 way tie
- Most Likely To Succeed: Me, obviously
- Most Unique: Me, again, obviously
- best dressed: The One
- Most Likely to be on Catfish- The Purple Catfish
- Best Dancer: The Winged Dancer
- Biggest Gossip: The One With Mouths
- Kindest Demon: really? ok maybe The One Which Smiles
- Most Gullible: The One Which Smiles
- Most Upbeat Attitude: The One Which Smiles
- Most Likely To Become A Motivational Speaker: The One (I guess it already does that)
- Most Likely To Open A Yoga Studio: The Twisted Count
- Most Likely To Save The Planet: Me, when everyone Trembles and QUAKES before me
For context, my player requested that the Horned King fill out a demonic yearbook so she could decide which demons she should "be friends with"
Last week in LARP:
Each for their own reasons, the party endeavoured to track down a spirit who was causing problems (on purpose) to Kitaland and Lupanum alike. Along the way they encountered the consequences of a reality-warping change spirit going "on tour": rivers flowed backwards, villages declared independence, and someone attempted to perform surgery using a gun. After making a deal with a witch (which definitely won't have any unfortunate consequences don't worry about it), one of the party members managed to convince the spirit to join them in their travels, while the other party member managed to not cause a diplomatic incident (yet).
Extra Bonus End Bit
Please enjoy the second half of last week's roll table detailing some interesting new jobs to make your high fantasy even... higher(??):
- Eel-ectrical engineers - these are the folks who gave some eels the power of electricity and who keep said eels in good working condition. It's said that they have plans to gift electricity to some other unsuspecting fish but they get very charged up any time they're pressed for further details on the subject.
- Inspectre - checks that any and all ghosts in the building are up to scratch by doing regular performance reviews.
- Railroad conductors - they play a magical tune that will miraculously force the players onto the single set path the GM designated (the tune is the Thomas the Tank Engine theme song)
- Horse in Star Wars - Star Wars appears hell bent on not including actual horses in their lore so by playing a pantomime horse in some tavern show you will be enriching life for both me personally and also for all the denizens of some galaxy far, far away.
Wash your hands, stay safe, and come play some games with us π
