[We pan to an episode of Yu-Gi-Oh, where predictably two characters with extremely dramatic hair are playing a children's card game. One of them begins to monologue.]
Kaiba: This duel is mine, Yugi! You see, I've had help from a mysterious figure wearing a purple hoodie who gave me "the most powerful card in all of Yu-Gi-Oh" so that I can defeat you! And with my magic card, I should be able to find it! I activate Pot of Greed, which allows me to draw two additional cards from my deck, thus increasing the number of options in my hand!
[He throws down Pot of Greed, and dramatically draws the two cards, holding them up in the air before adding them to his hand. Lightning bolts fly and dramatic music plays.]
Kaiba: Aha! I found it! Prepare to be defeated, Yugi! I play the most powerful card of all... The Newsletter!!
[He slams down a card called The Newsletter on his Duel Disk. This newsletter appears in front of him.]
Yugi: what are you... doing, kaiba?
Kaiba: wait this isn't a Yu-Gi-Oh card it's just the newsletter printed on a trading card.

Term 2 Week 5 Tabletop Weekend (10am February 9th - 10pm February 10th, B2.02 Science Concourse)
It's getting ever closer! Join us at any time during the weekend of week five in B2.02 for all the gaming you could imagine, or at least all the gaming you can fit in. I'm beginning to train for this by weightlifting with the board games I have at home (that'll definitely make me better at gaming) and balancing a variety of things on other things to prepare for games like Junkart. There's even a Facebook event now so you can tell all your friends about how great a weekend you'll be having, wow.
Annual General Meeting (6pm Wednesday 27th February, LIB1)
Welcome back to Fun Facts About The AGM, a great new segment I introduced in last week's newsletter. This week's fun fact is about one of the motions introduced just last year. Back in the Olden Days, our President was in fact called the Presidential Spokesbeing, with the President being very similar to our Mascot position. Past "Presidents" included Brian Blessed and Hypnotoad, but our current mascot is R.O.N. because we felt bad that he'd run for literally every exec position and never got in. Congrats on finally winning something, R.O.N., but your term will be coming to an end soon - we'll be electing a new mascot during the AGM. Anyway, here's your weekly reminder of the Facebook event where you can find all of the useful details.
What's happening this week?
The miracle of rooms staying the same each week has alas ended, with a seismic shift moving Boardgames to the Physics Common Room... on the fifth floor of Physics. Seems like I shouldn't have skipped leg day while weightlifting board games, that's a whole lotta stairs. Please note that you can get to the Physics Common Room is via the stairs partway through the Science Concourse, not the stairs on the side closest to the library!
- Wargames Monday 17:00 to 22:00, B2.01 Science Concourse
- Magic: The Gathering Draft Tuesday 18:00 to 22:00, B2.02 Science Concourse
- Boardgames Wednesday 14:00 to 22:00, P5.64 Science Concourse (Physics Common Room)
- Casual Card Games Thursday 17:00 to 22:00, R0.12 Ramphal Building
- Live Action Roleplaying Sunday 12:00 to 17:00 starting in B2.02 Science Concourse
We've now got a box of Ravnica Allegiance in now so that will be being drafted during the Magic Draft for the usual price of £8 (reduced by £2 per pack you bring). For your RPG needs, please check out the Events Page as always - Tim's usual weekly one-shot event has just been put up here.
What happened last week?
Spirit Island is a game I don't have much experience in, but it definitely seems like a dramatic one. This week I walked up to it to see what happened, and the following conversation ensued:
Josh Raffles (CCGs Rep): I did a thing.
Finnbar: What did you do?
Josh: That. [Points at a quarter of the island that's now on a different table.]
Finnbar: What.
So it turns out you can just sink a quarter of the island. Huh. Josh then proceeded to one-up himself by sinking another quarter of the island. Can't have a corrupted island if there's no island, I guess.
Also, Tim ran a Netrunner tournament (which I couldn't make it to...) won by Sam Coy, who won the first tournament back in term 1. He seems to be quite good at this tournament winning business. Tim seems to have had a particularly busy weekend as he also ran his usual one-shot, in which the party (including a blindfolded wizard/cleric that could see via his owl) tried to solve a murder but had to deal with a variety of foes including arcane glyphs that seemed to be designed by the most sadistic of engineers (aka Tim).
Finally, I bought an adorable shark cuddly toy from IKEA yesterday and need a name for it. If you've got any ideas, please put them in the comments or message them to me in some other way!
Much love <3

A handy diagram explaining which parts of Spirit Island are sunk and which aren't.
It's nearly week five, so you get an excellent poster drawn by our talented artist Ares!
