After some excellent games of Superfight I thought, why don't I get a Superfight character to write the newsletter? Unfortunately I don't have access to the Superfight deck right now so I'm just gonna have to make up a Superfight-like character... enter Superman, but really observant - Observant Man! Is it a bird? Is it a plane? "Yes", said Observant Man, looking at a bird and then a plane. Take it away, Observant Man!
Observant Man: Hello citizens, as my news reporting friend mentioned I'm writing the newsletter this week. There are events happening. People can still collect their hoodies. Games were played. There's a meeting. The sky is blue.
Finnbar: [trying to stay awake because observant man is so boring] observant man you're fired

Game Design Collaboration - Build Your Own Board Game! (10am Saturday - 5pm Sunday, LIB2)
This weekend is your chance to try and make your own board game! In collaboration with Game Design we're running a game jam - a day and a half long event where you try to make a board game. We'll start with a pair of talks to help give you ideas at 10am on Saturday, then the actual game making time from 11am on Saturday to 3pm on Sunday. After that there'll be time for open playtesting from 3pm - 5pm on Sunday - even if you can't make the rest of the event, please join us to try out the new games that were created! We'll also be going to Nando's in Coventry afterwards, so that'll be nice. Here's the link to the Facebook event if that's your jam. Hope to see you there!
Annual General Meeting (6pm Wednesday 27th February, LIB1)
Welcome back to Fun Facts About The AGM, the insightful section of the newsletter that leaves me scraping at the bottom of the barrel for definitely useful facts about our upcoming meeting! This week we have a bumper double fact edition! Our first fun fact is that there are still many roles to be filled, including CCGs Rep, Web Admin and Wargames Rep! While you can run on the day, it's much more helpful if you post your intentions earlier in this thread as it helps the exec organise the AGM (and helps reassure us that there will be a next exec). I'd wholeheartedly recommend running for exec, and if you like the idea of standing for a particular position but aren't sure what it entails talk to the current exec member - I'm sure they'll be happy to answer any questions you might have!
Our second fun fact is that the deadline for proposing constitutional changes is 6pm tomorrow (Tuesday 19th February), so get on that if you've got big ideas for the society - just post them in this thread. Finally, there's a Facebook event so you can tell your friends about the great AGM you'll be going to soon. Anyway, join us next week for the final episode of Fun Facts About The AGM with what is promised to be the most fun fact yet!
The Termly Quiz (OC0.01 Oculus Building, 6-8pm Friday 8th March)
The quiz returns for its second outing with Ares at the helm! I've heard rumours that there may be a round involving live music, so this is definitely not one to be missed (they say, looking angrily at themselves for missing the last two quizzes). Regardless, there'll be all manner of silly questions - you don't need to be some kind of University Challenge expert to have a good time. There's a Facebook event up here.
End of Term 2 Tabletop Weekend (12pm Saturday 9th March - 10pm Sunday 10th March, MR2 SUHQ and B2.02 Science Concourse)
In true end of term style, there's a Tabletop Weekend, which is a great way to reward yourself for all those deadlines you just had to deal with or a way to procrastinate if there are still a few left [Editor's Note: Oof, too real]. Also in true end of term style the rooms are a mess - we're in MR2 (SUHQ) from 12pm Saturday - 5pm Saturday, and then B2.02 (Science Concourse) for the rest of it. Don't let that put you off though - it'll still be an excellent 34 hours of drop-in gaming! There's even a Facebook event, wow. And there's posters at the bottom of the newsletter for both of these events! Double wow.
What's happening this week?
Boardgames is getting special treatment by having twice as many rooms as usual, wow! Unfortunately B2.03 is quite small but we'll have LIB2 from 5pm to deal with the inevitable lack of space.
- Wargames Monday 17:00 to 22:00, B2.01 Science Concourse
- Magic: The Gathering Draft Tuesday 18:00 to 22:00, B2.02 Science Concourse
- Boardgames Wednesday 14:00 to 22:00, B2.03 Science Concourse + LIB2 from 5pm
- Casual Card Games Thursday 17:00 to 22:00, R0.12 Ramphal Building
- Live Action Roleplaying Sunday 12:00 to 17:00 starting in B2.02 Science Concourse
For your RPG needs, please check out the Events Page as always. Tim isn't running a weekly one-shot this week (gasp) as he's gonna be at the Build Your Own Board Game event. Which you should be at too! It's gonna be cool.
What happened last week?
Life carried on, and events were still well-attended despite tabletop weekend (apparently everyone has an insatiable hunger for boardgames that wasn't sated by the weekend, huh). Superfight was played leading to excellent characters such as a whale that died in water (and was also a piƱata), a mega-cactus with a dragon as one of its legs, a gorilla armed with a livestock-throwing catapult and of course, Sticky Canada (which could throw ninja stars). Sticky Canada, to confirm, is literally just Canada, but very sticky. And it had the ability to throw ninja stars???
I brought in a new game this week called Tomatomato by the same people as Deep Sea Adventure (a very good submarine game... I quite like submarine games it seems) that involves pronouncing particularly long nonsense words. All you have to do is read the words on the cards in order. Easy, right? I've included one below (annotated with the words as they're hard to read in the photo), try to pronounce it quickly without making a mistake:

That's potatotomamamatomatomatototomatotomatomatomatomamato, by the way. I hope you pronounced it correctly! Finally, I forgot to put the exec meeting minutes from week 5's meeting in last week's newsletter, so you can find them on our site. Continuing the trend of things that weren't in last week's newsletter there are also photos from Tabletop Weekend at the bottom of this newsletter for you to enjoy!
Much love <3
