💭 What happened last week? 💭
Last week in LARP
Dr Rigg was tasked by his employer, Terne, to deal with troublesome Reeve by the name of Lieutenant Marcus Sinclair who was asking far too many questions.
He brought along the spiritualist Cecie whose hatred of Reeves was strong enough to justify an assassination and Pietro with whom he shared an employer. Together they set off for Annd where they had been informed Marcus could be found continuing his investigation.
Whilst traveling to Annd they encountered a group of bandits who were very straight forward about their intentions, a lagoon spirit who was convinced Quexlians had evaporated his lagoon, a group of imps on psychedelics trying (and failing) to put on a play and much, much more.
When they reached the gates of Annd Rigg and Pietro hid in the back of a cart whilst Cecie used a suggestion spell to let them pass without question. Once inside Rigg purchased a cursed mask from a vendor to help disguise his identity. He quickly discovered that the mask held the spirit of a long dead wizard who could now talk directly into his mind.
After travelling though Annd they eventually reached the location where they suspected they could find Marcus. They found him and numerous other reeves interrogating a suspected member of Terne’s assassins guild. After a lengthy conversation and a failed suggestion by Cecie Pietro convinced Marcus that it would be best to continue the interrogation in the woods outside Annd where there would be no witnesses. As they were heading into the woods on the outskirts of the city they had a long discussion with a group of heretics who had been kicked out of Annd about when precisely all the gods are drunk and fought off a group of thunder boars who attacked them. They then encountered a man capable of talking with the spirit in Riggs mask who vowed to head into Annd and report its presence to all relevant religious authorities. Finally, they encountered a couple of wizards with a box that when opened caused everyone nearby to enter a frenzy.
After finally getting to a clearing where they could hold the interrogation they encountered a tribunal of 3 spirits whom clamed they wished to oversee what was about to happen. After Marcus tortured the suspected assassin before being interrupted by Pietro and the others attacking them. After killing all the reeves Riggs attempted to finally remove his damnable mask only to discover it was cursed in more ways than one as it cast detach on him and began floating in the air. Fortunately, it was still made of porcelain and so could be easily destroyed with an attack from Pietro. The party then went about looting the bodies and making sure that no magic could be used to extract information from them during which Rigg found the transcript of an interrogation revealing a secret Terne wished to be secret.

Episode 10: In the Shadow of the World Tree
Silence filled the air. Revelations had come thick and fast, regardless of the severity of their combat, and the sudden immense vacancy left a deep malaise on the souls of each of the Circus Monkeys and their few remaining allies. Vaelith and Twig and Talien watched, the least stunned of those present, as the two dragons tangled in the sky above them, slowly but aimlessly moving in the direction of the Worldtree.
Between them, the party decided that they could face the now very visible threat once they’d had a chance to recuperate, and set themselves about steadily packing down the miraculously intact camp. Talia and Vaelith led the effort, folding the fabricated canvas of the tent in tight enough that it could fit into one of their bags. Cassandra, meanwhile, preparing to seek communion with the Guide, reached out to the still-unconscious Jigmy Whamchuck and knelt by them, her hands brushing oh so briefly against them – allowing a gentle blessing to pass from one servant of the Guide to the other. Jigmy awoke, for the first time since the incident on the road before the mountains, stunned at the weight of what had occurred since.
Whilst Cassandra left the others to focus on her communion, Baern took to supervising the injured. He prepared food for them, and Jigmy seemed particularly grateful for the nourishment. Loretta, meanwhile, was still struggling to come to terms with the weight of the revelations. Whilst it was substantial for the rest of the party, the reveal that not only was her father an Ancient Gold Dragon, but that their supposed antagonist, an Ancient Black Dragon no less, was her other father was more than she could handle.
Cassandra drew an intricate ritual circle, and whilst Blathers drew the symbol of the Guide over and over in the sky above her, she asked two questions of her deity: what would happen if they travelled to the Worldtree, and what would happen if they did so immediately. To both, she received an indicator of Weal and Woe, but the Weal was stronger in the latter answer. She awoke, reassured in her path of action… just as Twig and Talien came barrelling back into camp.
Whilst the others had been packing down or up to their own work, the two locals had been busy foraging to find food for the journey, when they’d come across the bush in which Cassandra had found the deer before. Examining the dent in the leaves they found several small shards of redwood from the arrows, immediately clocking them as having come from trees which only grew where the Karen’Tun, Talien’s old Berserker Tribe, would often hunt.
He ran back to present this information to the others, catching Cassandra as she awoke from her second augury, and the party swiftly set about moving. Talien hoisted Jigmy onto his free shoulder whilst Cassandra and Baern took particular care to make sure that Loretta, still struggling but insistent that she was okay to sideline her own revelations, was capable of moving. She promised that she was, especially with Wallis at her side.
For whatever reason, Gilgram saw fit to attempt to stand between the two, but a small exertion of magic from the Draconic woman swiftly removed him as an obstacle.
The party walked for some time, until they decided to stop for lunch. Though most of them were shellshocked, either patrolling or simply sitting to take in the weight of what had befallen them in the last 24 hours, Cassandra was eager for another vision, and found some hallucinogenic berries with which to incite such a divine reception.
Despite Baern’s firm misgivings, Cassandra managed to consume a berry, and swiftly let the dream take her. Inside the dream, she saw herself from Blathers’ eyes. She was stood, alongside all of her party members aside from Baern, on a stone brick floor, battered with torrential rain. Around them, simultaneously both supporting and attacking them, were soldiers wearing red, gold, silver or black, and great shadows shifted back and forth across the plateau like the beating of mighty wings, before flame consumed her perception.
When she awoke, she realised she’d cast a healing spell into the earth, clearly imagining it to be something else. She told nobody of the details of her vision.
The party walked for the rest of the day, finding themselves by early evening outside a goblin settlement beneath one of the monumental roots of the Worldtree, the tree itself bigger than the mountains they’d passed between before. In an instant, they were suddenly swarmed by a sea of small purple goblins, clamouring excitedly at the new guests, and the return of one of their own. They leapt onto Twig and Talien, begged Vaelith to demonstrate some magic, were obsessed by Talia’s sword, and hung off of Cassandra, Baern and Thorne like climbing frames. The only one they were wary of was Gilgram, the younger children held back by the older ones, though a few felt brave enough to approach at Twig’s insistence that he was a friend.
Through the crowd, however, came Lilliana the Pink, the highest shaman of the village, and a mother figure to both Twig and Talien. She spoke with them, hoping their return was for a happier reason than the dragons fighting overhead, but Twig had to tell her that not only was that why they were here, but that the Karen’Tun might be nearby as well.
Lilliana took the party to the large pink flame at the centre of the village, where she told them all about her people, the Yggdrasi, and their history with the Karen’Tun. Between them, the party agreed that whilst it wasn’t exactly their initial objective, they would be more than happy to help with the issue, and fend off any potential attacks, even taking the fight to them.
Whilst the others slept, Gilgram walked beyond the confines of the village. He could feel their distrust of him. He knew that they knew he was a Berserker, and that he had more familiarity with the Karen’Tun than he was letting on. The hatred of him burnt through his blood, and as it pounded in his ears, it sounded indistinguishable from a war-drum.
