The quest for the Queenâs Tears
Jeramy, the husband of the Marquise Alexander had fallen ill. Fearing for his life Alexander contacted the Lady Bedivere in the hope her friend Finn could save his life. Bedivere brought Finn and Abjurer-Lieutenant Andromalius along with her to examine Jeramy. Using his advanced understanding of physiology and medicine Finn concluded that he could make a medicine which would cure him however, it would require the petals of a rare flower named the Queenâs Tear.
Setting out to find the flower the party found a group of Von Bluedâs tax collectors⊠in Fitsabreâs territory. Deciding it was easier to just pay them off the party handed over 3 TR(!!!!!) and continued on with their quest. On their journey the party encountered a merchant selling a truly fabulous looking hat for 1 TR. They later came upon a pair of reeves who took issue with Andromalius who had been teaching the peasantry their rights. Fortunately, they managed to convince them to instead go after the tax collectors they had previously met.
After fighting off some wolves the party then came across a tall figure in a cloak who accused them of kicking dogs. This figure, who was about the height of 3 imps, refused to let them pass due to their transgressions and began hurling ineffectual insults at them. Realising what was happening Finn struck the figure revealing it was in fact 3 imps in a cloak!!! The party then killed them all like big meanies. Continuing with their journey the party came upon a corpse which had been left out for a few days. Having already been warned about a beast which attacked travellers during the full moon the party inspected the body closely discovering numerous bight and claw wounds. Andromalius then called upon the power of the void to allow the corpse to speak. It revealed it had been travelling during the fall moon when a great beast wearing tattered red cloth began chasing it before killing it.
Disturbed by this the party continued to travel before hearing the cries of someone who was injured deeper into the wilderness. Rushing over to him the party was then ambushed by a group of bandits. After subduing them the party helped heal the injured civilian before stabilising the bandits. They then disarmed one of the bandits and healed him so that he could walk. Seizing this opportunity the bandit sprinted away as fast as he could with the party in hot pursuit. After Andromalius successfully used the power of the void to burden the runaway with existential dread the party tied up his legs before bringing him back to where they left the other bandits. Unfortunately, the âcivilianâ whom had been calling for help had actually been in league with the other bandits and had taken advantage of the parties absence to free his compatriots and so the party came across an empty battle sight. Fed up of this whole affair Andromalius convened a court which passed a death sentence on the last remaining bandit which he swiftly carried out.
After that debacle the party headed deeper into the woods before coming across a spirit inspecting the local wild life for some kind of corruption. Fortunately, the bears it were inspecting were clean and so the party continued. The party then encountered the hat merchant once again. He had sold his last hat by now but he was now wearing an even larger and more fabulous hat which he was selling for a modest price of 2 TR. Despite not purchasing the hat like cheapskates the merchant did mention he knew an alchemist who would know more about the Queenâs Tears and so with this new direction the party renewed their journey. They then came upon the person who had purchased the hat from the merchant. He was being asked by an admirer of the hat to sell the hat for a cheaper price however, he refused to go below 1 TR. Deciding this nonsense was not worth their time the party began leaving. However, they were stopped by the sounds of violence behind them and the one who had been trying to buy the hat walking confidently past the party wearing it. Healing the merchant whom had been assaulted Andromalius convened yet another court and convicted the attacker with assault and theft before mutilating their arm as punishment.
Later the party came across the aforementioned alchemist who gave directions to a clearing where the party could find the Queenâs Tears but warned them that many of the flowers had been trampled and destroyed by a great beast. Having been given new directions the party then came across a powerful group of ghouls who attacked the party ferociously. After striking them down the party then found an imp trying to start a a new hunter clan dedicated to hunting humans. After killing it the party had a final encounter with the hat merchant who now had an even larger and more fabulous hat which was most definitely worth 3 TR where they once again let him down. Finally, the party came across the clearing they had been given directions to. They were greeted by the spirit of the Queenâs Tears whom had charmed a number of animals to help it defend its last flower. The spirit was reluctant to allow the party to take the flower as it would mean that if none of its seedlings managed to grow it would die however, after Finn and the Lady Bedivere promised to tend to and grow a garden of the flowers the spirit agreed. Finn then used the petals of the flower to make the medicine which healed the Jeramy. The Marquise Alexander then rewarded the Lady Bedivere with some of his lands and paid Finn and Andromalius for their troubles.

Last time on Of Spheres and Scales: Season 1 - Cirque D'Aur:
Episode 12: Not My Monkeys
[In the Ethereal PlaneâŠ]
Talia found herself in a strange, familiar space which resembled one of the common rooms of her old college. Across from her, lounging over an armchair like he owned the place, she saw Maeven Spektar, the Bladesinger. An old friend of hers from her school days, the one whoâd run the fight club she spent the time when she shouldâve been in lessons attending. He welcomed her to his Mindscape, and explained that heâd been watching her and the Circus Monkeys for the last while. Not giving Talia the time to properly address what must have been quite an alarming revelation, Maeven opened one of the numerous books from one of the walls of his Mindscape and flicked through the pages to find a direct view of the tent that the Monkeys had constructed two nights ago, commenting to Talia on the beauty of the Faerie Fire lights sheâd created for it.
With a rueful chuckle, he reminded her of what heâd told her when she first decided to quit the academy: that she had immense magical potential but that she needed someone to unlock it within her. Talia protested â surely this could wait until after sheâd saved her friends with Maevenâs help? â but Maeven instead insisted that if they couldnât survive whilst the two of them worked then they didnât deserve her companionship. Relenting, Talia decided to humour him. Maeven set about trying to instruct her to tap into her magical potential, watching her summon a Green Flame Blade⊠before being stunned as she immediately attacked him with it.
At such an affront, a neat hole burnt into his uniform, he decided to skip straight to part 2 of Taliaâs training, and the space around them collapsed, replaced instead with a colosseum, and Maeven drew a sword of pure radiant fire, and leapt at Talia to attack.
[On a hill by the Karen-Tun FortressâŠ]
Thorne approached the strangely familiar figure, remembering him from paintings but having no recollection as to his name. Inquiring as to who the old man was, he didnât explain but instead told Thorne that he had been sent after him. This made all the difference â although the order Thorne had left behind was largely composed of monks, there were a fair few Clerics in their midst â known for their roles as inquisitors, called the Cardinals of Flame.
The Cardinal told Thorne that even though he had left the order the tales of his incessant violence had reached his ears â and that these tales carried with them words of disparagement against the order. He explained that, as a Cardinal of Flame, he operated within a thin line of balance â between the Unchained, the god of War, and the Adjudicator, the god of Peace and Justice.
With this, he offered Thorne a choice. Either join him as a Cardinal of Flame, and continue his violent crusade for a noble cause⊠or perish. With enough thought, Thorne decided to reject the clericâs offer. The Cardinal sighed and nodded, before revealing heâd been secretly hoping Thorne would turn him down, so that he could kill the blemish on their order. He drew his weapon, an ornate trident-headed mace, and moved to attack.
[In the Yggdrasi VillageâŠ]
Those goblins who were old enough to remember the other fallen gathered in the centre of the village for Jonâs funerary rites. Lilliana had prepared Jonâs body, and it lay on an altar infront of the roaring pink fire. To one side, Talien stood, Twig on his shoulder, both staring into the flame. Lilliana spoke to Twig, and explained that he shouldnât blame his own empathy and optimism for what happened â that the only one who deserved the blame was the murderer, Gilgram. Before they planned their next move, however, they needed to undergo the ceremony. With a whoosh of energy, the congregation found themselves up on a branch of the Worldtree, the fire still raising before them. Jonâs body, on its wooden altar, lifted up and drifted into the blaze, and Twig and Talien watched as the flame licked at the sides of the altar but didnât even begin to burn either it or Jonâs body. The Yggdrasi present closed their eyes, and as the runes on their skin began to drift away from their forms, the words of their funerary prayer echoed in their shared consciousness:
Your life is not lost, Your teachings unforgotten. In the hearts of our people, Connected by our Mother Tree, You will remain. I will see you again, dear friend- Child of the Mother Tree. I will cherish my experiences, Hold those I know close, And make my story an interesting one So that I can tell it to you, my friend, When we meet again In the World Treeâs loving embrace.
When their eyes opened once more, Jonâs body had become a swirl of beautiful petals which drifted to rest on the Worldtreeâs branches, and the congregation had returned to the ground.
The other Yggdrasi now gathered around Twig and Talien, anointing them with lengths of petal-parchment with runes inscribed on them, each detailing the story of one of the fallen. Lilliana spoke to them, and told them that only they could prevent a death like Jonâs by happening again â by accompanying her to destroy the Karen-Tun once and for all. As Twig and Talien slipped into a rage, the parchment adorning them burnt away and the runes formed glowing pink armour, which embraced their forms as they followed Lilliana through a portal to the entrance to the Karen-Tunâs fortress.
[In the Karen-Tun FortressâŠ]
Having slept briefly and fitfully in an admittedly very well furnished prison cell, Cassandra and Vaelith awoke to hear Alieth approaching. The monumental Barbarian, flanked by a second, shorter barbarian wearing the cloak of a powerless figurehead, stepped into the prison cell. Rather than kill them, however, Alieth instead created a small pocket of magic which allowed Cassandra to heal Vaelithâs broken back. With his movement restored, Alieth encouraged the two spellcasters to follow him, despite the shorter barbarianâs misgivings.
Eventually they were convinced to follow, being led out of the Fortressâ inner keep, past a monumental treasure hall in which a strange, glowing plinth thrummed ominously, and out onto the wall. There they saw Gilgram amongst the other Berserkers returning from the Yggdrasi village, but didnât interact with him, assuming that he was under cover and attempting to free them.
Whilst Alieth led the spellcasters to a small patch of grass anointed with the Sigil of the Jurisdict, god of Control, Gilgram was met by the shorter barbarian â Tarsa, the once-chieftain of the Karen-Tun. She explained that the fortress and her own position were both thanks to Aliethâs leadership, even though she objected heavily to his obsession with learning magic.
Inside the patch of grass, thanks to the Jurisdictâs influence, Vaelith and Cassandra both felt their magic return. They tried immediately to flee, but their Dimension Door only took them as far as the edge of the arena. Instead, they were encouraged by Alieth to attack. They did so â hurling first a Chromatic Orb, then a Wall of Fire, then a Lightning Bolt at Aliethâs specific request. He received each burst of magical damage willingly, making sure that his lieutenants were watching as intently as possible. He thanked the spellcasters for their assistance, and led them back to their cells, promising to furnish them with a second bed so that they could both rest. Before he could, however, a powerful bell began to ring throughout the camp. Rousing from their meals in the mess tent, both Tarsa and Gilgram went to investigate, finding two pink-glowing figures stood outside of the Fortress walls, accompanied by an ever-increasing horde of summoned creatures.
Meanwhile, deep within the castle, back in the Anti-Magic field, Cassandra and Vaelith felt a sudden rush of energy. Very few things can overpower an Anti-Magic field, but one of them is the will of a God. So Cassandra suddenly felt her eyes replaced with Calcium as the Guide overtook her⊠and beside her Vaelith, unused to the sensation of possession, felt his fingertips grow heavy as they were replaced with Tungsten, as The Locus, God of Order, claimed his body to help him escape.
