After your time at the tavern, you returned home for a good night's rest. You are roused the next morning by loud shouting from outside on the street. You head out to find a sort of street-fair has been set up with many stalls. The adventurer's guild is clearly in town and seem to be recruiting new adventurers for their upcoming adventures.
As you walk through the fair, you hear shouts of dragons, demons and treasures beyond your wildest dreams; the colours of the stalls are bright, filling you with a motivation for adventure and glory. You stop at a stall and have a read of the proposed adventure: a foray into a brand new world, crafted by someone called the 'Dungeon Master', vanquishing an evil that you were previously oblivious even to its existence. You see many people around you, quickly signing up to adventures and stalls subsequently closing.
It's clear you're running out of time to make a decision on your first adventure so you scribble your name down in the parchment, below three others, and are blinked out from the straight and onto a chair in a dimly, yet warm, candlelit room. Before you lies a set of dice, a pewter tankard of what is either a dark ale or simple cola, and a blank sheet for you to fill in your details. You enter in your race, your class and backstory and the page suddenly fills with various numbers, stats and items. A hooded figure sits at the head of the table behind a screen, dropping their hood to reveal the face of someone you had met at the tavern the night before. As the DM begins to speak, you enter a trance and your mind is carried away from the table off onto your first true DnD adventure...
Announcements (A good few of them this week)
RPGs Sign-Ups
If you couldn't tell from the intro, many new campaigns, of varying lengths, for a variety of RPG systems will be commencing over the next few weeks. This is a chance for you to get involved with a weekly event that I'm sure you are to enjoy if RPGs are your thing. It also presents a good opportunity to meet new people, for those of you in first year, that you will come to know very well by the end of the campaign. If you wish to create a new campaign or join an existing one head on over to the events page and select create event or click on one of the existing events that takes your fancy.
Whispers: Auction... Board Games... Sale...
The extensive board games collection we have within the society is in need of some refinement and cropping. As a result, there will be an auction... at a time... that has yet to be decided... I'll hopefully have some more details on this next week, this will hopefully just spark some interest for now.
Exec Meetings
For those of you not aware, the exec aren't just the people that wear slightly different clothing at events that you can talk to. We also have other roles in the running and maintaining of the society. This involved (bi)weekly meetings regarding various issues or events we wish to discuss. YOU are welcome to come along to any of these meetings should you wish to, just ask a member of the exec so you know the date/time/location and so we know who's coming. The minutes for the most recent meetings can be found if you click on one of these: WEEK 0, WEEK 1.
Volunteering Opportunities!
As a new venture for the society, every Friday (12-2pm) members of our society will be heading down to a local school to run a lunchtime social club, playing some simple games with the students. Transport to and from the school is free although you will need a DBS check through Warwick to join along with MINIMAL training. This sort of opportunity goes on your HEAR at the end of university so is a really good thing to get involved with. For more information and to sign up, head over to the webpage here!
Reminder Regarding Email Newsletters
We're saying goodbye to the SU messaging system within the next few weeks. This means you will no longer receive newsletters via email and will now have to come to the society's Facebook page or, even better for the proper viewing pleasure I intend for you, on our website. You can click here to quickly subscribe to the website version. This change will happen for week 4's newsletter.
