On your usual journey out from your home to get groceries, your route always takes you past the tavern where you frequently go for board games on a Wednesday. You are therefore surprised to see that the tavern is open and bustling midday on a Saturday. Curious as to what all the commotion is about, you head into the tavern.
(Bonus points if you can guess what games are being badly described...)
Upon walking through the door you are surprised again to see the room is packed out. In one corner, two teams screaming commands frantically chasing the other team down, another table surrounded by people madly dealing in little wooden cubes, several tables set up with calm card games and out in the alleyway people talking of hostages and the defusing of a bomb... Before you even have time to take it all in Josh, the tavern keep, gently guides you to a table where another game is just about to begin.
By the time you leave, realising you've still yet to get groceries, it is late evening, or should I say early morning... Hmmm...
Announcements
CODE PURPLE! THIS IS NOT A DRILL! IT'S EXTRAVAGANZA WEEK!!!
For those of you who have been before, they clearly need no explanation, but for those of you new to the society this year, we run bi-termly board games (and other games) weekend-long events where you can rock up and play at any point, or for the bravest of you stay the full 36hrs and play till you can't anymore! Come along to B2.02 anytime from 10am on Saturday 26th right through until 10pm on Sunday 27th. We look forward to seeing you there! Facebook event here for more information.
Board Games Auction
Another Reminder that the society will be running a fundraising auction of many BGs... classics... Some old, some VERY old, and some that are just underplayed within the society, quite frankly we need the space and it gives you lot a chance to grab what might, by some small, tiny chance, be a game you enjoy and want to have forever... and ever... The auction is planned for Friday 25th October, 6-8pm in LIB1 and details of what will be available for you to get your hands on will be released and in next week's newsletter. Check out the super high quality GIF down below (Credit to Finnbar). If you want to see what's up for grabs, check out this link.
Halloweek!! Spooky Ghost Noises
Next week, as I'm sure you are all aware, is Halloween. Like most people, the society is not one to shy away from celebrating the holiday so we will be replacing our standard weekly board games event with BOO-ard Games! Feel free to come along in costume (or not) and bring some cake for our spooky-themed board games event. There will also be a special Halloween draft, more details next week.
Escape Room!
"Enter a world of witches and wizards in Tabletop's first ever escape room! You're an apprentice in Magic University, and, together with some of your fellow students, you'll be helping out a pair of archmages with their menial tasks for the day."
Get involved with our custom made escape room, produced by the exec with help from our friends over at The Pocket Workshop. Book you and up to 3 other friends a slot for the hour to see if you have what it takes to by an Archmage's apprentice. Hour slots (including briefing, running the room, and debriefing) will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis to complete teams via our Escape Room Discord server (4XsFa3z
). Full details, event times, sign-up and ticketing are available (when they open) on the SU page. Please ensure each person books their own ticket.
Volunteering Opportunities Reminder
Just another reminder that every Friday (12-2pm) members of our society will be heading down to a local school to run a lunchtime social club, playing some simple games with the students. Transport to and from the school is free although you will need a DBS check through Warwick to join along with MINIMAL training. This sort of opportunity goes on your HEAR at the end of university so is a really good thing to get involved with. For more information and to sign up, head over to the webpage here!

For those of you that care, the results of that potted plant murder poll from last week was 74%:26% in favour of severe injury. Thanks to people that voted on that, you've set my mind at ease! I hope you all have a very enjoyable week and if you're going, enjoy the weekend event too! Sadly I've booked to travel away for the weekend so I shan't be joining.
Much Love,
