With all the preparation for the forthcoming tournament, you easily breeze through the group stages and into the finals. Unfortunately, you get destroyed in the semi-final, you deck seemingly ineffective against your opponent. Distraught at the close loss in the tournament you leave the arena, without your needed black lotus.
On your way out, your opponent that knocked you out rushes over to you and hands you the black lotus you're after. "Yeah, I kinda already had like 5 of these, you could've just asked for one..." He laughs and walks away. You head back through the gate, completing your quest in the plane of Ravnica.

New RPGs Acquisition - Edge of the Empire
For anyone looking to run or play a game of Hutts, Spaceships, and Scruffy Looking Nerf Herders, the society has now added the core rulebook for Edge of the Empire to our budding collection of RPG gamebooks! Just let an exec member know if you want to borrow it, or any of our other resources, for one of your games.
Adventurer's League Epic D&D
On Sunday February 9th the society will be running the Epic D&D Adventurer's League module 'Stardock Under Siege'. Epic D&D modules like this, for those of you that don't know, consist of large scale one-off adventures, for LARGE groups, all working in close proximity to achieve one goal, despite working individually. Tickets for Players will go on sale soon on the SU Website, but for now we need Dungeon Masters. If you are an experienced DM looking for something new, please get in touch with Jon (RPGs Rep) or Anakin (Assistant RPGs Rep) and express your interest ASAP for more information.
Newsletter Survey
I know this is probably a pointless place to make you aware of this but eh, this is what I have for now so... For those of you that were around at the EGM last year, you may remember me saying I wanted to make some changes to the newsletter. In doing this "WE (or rather I) NEED YOU". I'm hoping to get a survey out on people's opinions on the current state of the newsletter and its following. Please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, PLEASE fill it out for me and if you can, try to encourage our society members to also fill it out. I want to make the newsletter more appealing to more people and I can't do that without your input. Thank you <3
As an extension from this, here's Thomas' beautiful insight at about midnight on Sunday: "Just FYI, as it stands, 32 people receive your newsletters in full by email, 2 further people just get it as part of the activity summary. 449 people have not changed that setting, and 2 people have chosen to receive no notification that it is happening (i.e. actively turned it off). For comparison, only 51 people have changed their notification settings at all."
"(Not sure if there is a link here, but both people who have turned off the newsletter use dark mode. Conspiracy theory: newspaper haters are therefore all vampires who cannot cope with white screens or the blazing glory of the newsletter)"
Website Updates
Progress has continued on improving our website over this past term, some of which might have flown under the radar, so here is a quick summary of the new features you all should be aware of to get the most out of the website.
Firstly, we now send out the newsletter solely through the website. This means that if you want to keep receiving newsletters delivered weekly to your inbox, you need to enable that on your tabletop account. Fortunately, doing this is very simple. First, login to the website if you aren't already, then click 'Notification Settings', which is either in the quick links on desktop or tablet, or in the Account drop-down on the Navigation Bar. Here you can customise not just your newsletter preferences, but several others categories of notifications too. To receive the full newsletter as you always used to, select Full Email, or alternatively you can get a notification that one was published combined with any other activity you care about by selecting Summary Email, which will link you to the website version for your viewing pleasure.
Finally, this past week, a new profile field has been added to help others discover your pronouns. It will appear on your public profile, and can be added simply by clicking Edit from your profile page (accessible using the 'My Profile' links on the sidebar or Account drop-down). Please do fill this out, even if you don’t personally experience incorrect pronoun usage to help normalise the practice for those that do.
What's Happening this Week?

- Board Games - Wednesday, 2-10pm, B2.02
- Casual Card Games - Thursday, 5-10pm, LIB1

- LARP - Sunday, 12-5pm, Starting in B2.04/5 - Remember to arrive on time if you do want to take part.
As a little thing from last week, I finally got a game of Deception with ALL the expansion roles. I'm particularly fond of the 'Inside Man' (who can remove someone's ability to vote in the game once per round, good fun for annoying your mates cough NATHAN cough) and the 'Lab Technician' (who can check one weapon or evidence each round to see if it's involved in the crime). Get yourself a big group to play them with this weekend at the tabletop weekend!
Much Love
