As you look up at the fireworks, filling the night sky as the clock ticks down on the year you are filled with confidence, determined to make a success of the coming months one way or another. Out of the corner of your eye, you spot a black shape moving across the sky, obscuring some of the light of the fireworks. More and more join and the objects grows in size and as they slowly approach the ground, you recognise the unmistakable skull insignia of the space orks.
You rush to your home, seeking shelter as the transports land just north of the settlement. Knowing that your simple sword gained on your questing near the end of the year will be no match to the wave of dakka that is surely soon to come, you collect some basic supplies and rush south. As you do, you hear the rumbling of engines and shouts of another army rushing towards you. The flash of ultramarine blue marks them as the space marines, and your village as a battleground for the fight to come.

AGM2020 - President Role
Yup, it's term 2 which means it's time for everyone's "favourite" event of the year, the Annual General Meeting (AGM2020), and to be fair it does sound far more interesting as AGM2020 rather than the full name so let's stick with that. AGM2020 is an opportunity for big change and for you to get involved even more, and let us exec members retire. Got something you don't like about the society that's deep rooted in the constitution? Motion to change it. Want to take on one of the plethora of exec roles? Run for one! (Please, please run for one... We have to graduate and stuff at some point). Don't worry, you've got about 8 weeks before the meeting so start to think about these things now. To help you with this, I'll have a brief rundown of each exec role in the newsletters this term, starting today with the most important, the president.
The society president (post currently held by Callum Marvel) is responsible for overseeing almost everything within the society to some extent, from representing the society at events such as Socs Fair, to dealing with the... SU... (Shudders). As this is probably the biggest role, you have to ensure you will be able to dedicate a good chunk of available time to society causes as you're kinda in charge. Any more questions about this role, speak to Callum, often found at many of our events, or on the society Discord (@The_Marve11).
Newsletter Survey
You may remember I mentioned a survey of your opinions on the newsletter would be coming out this term. This is now done and the survey is live! PLEASE respond to it, get other people that you know in the society to respond to it. Just please respond. I don't want to write a newsletter that isn't doing what people want and this is your chance to change that without running for my role at AGM2020. You can find the survey at this link.
RPGs Updates!
On Saturday this week 12-7pm, in the social sciences cafe, there is an opportunity for another set of introductions to RPGs for those of you that still want to try out a new system or try out being a GM for the first time. To attend, please sign up for one of the oneshots at this link. If you wish to register your interest as a GM, please check out this link or contact Jon (RPGs) or Anakin (Assistant RPGs).
As well as this, the society now owns a new pathfinder mat, Xanathar's Guide to Everything, more dice and a "Reincarnated" DM screen for your use in your society RPGs, just ask Jon or Anakin to borrow these.
Boardgames Weekend!
Our third weekend-long boardgames event of the year will be taking place in the weekend of week 3 (25th at 10am to 26th at 10pm) in B2.02 and B2.04/05. If you've still yet to come to one, why not??? They're amazing fun and an opportunity to meet many more people in the society. What's more, I can actually come to this one (Yay!)!

What happened over the holidays?
During the break there was a WH40K tournament and after numerous hard-fought battles, only one emerged victorious... Constantly. Congratulations to Dan Hunt for being the undefeated winner of December's Warhammer 40K tournament! For those of you who were still at the university of the holiday period, I hope you enjoyed the holiday sessions that were running. If you did attend these and have any feedback on them, please contact one of the exec and we'll be happy to listen on how they could be improved. I was fortunate enough to get Munchkin (40K Edition) at Christmas and after spending a little while working out what was going on due to the slightly more complex rules, thanks to the WH40K element, I found it to be very enjoyable. Hopefully I'll bring it to one of the boardgames events at somepoint for some of you to check out for yourselves.
That's it for now. I hope you all had an enjoyable break. I wish you a happy new year and look forward to hopefully seeing some of you about at this term's events.
Much Love,
Luke Scriven (Communications Officer)
