Newsletter Survey Results
As a result of the newsletter opinion survey, I personally am hoping this will be the last newsletter in this extremely boring and essay-esque format. You'll be potentially pleased to see the intro is now gone and all forthcoming announcements and posts will be, at the very least, streamlined for quick and easy access on this platform. In addition to this I am currently pushing for a PDF based format, allowing for me, and future Comms officers that are less able in terms of web-based formatting, to utilise simple programs such as publisher to produce an eye-catching and effective newsletter each week. Hopefully things will change moving forward.
AGM2020 - RPGs and LARP Reps
Continuing with the introduction of roles for the upcoming AGM (don’t forget it, Wednesday 26th, 6-8pm), this week we have short descriptions about the RPGs and LARP rep positions:
RPGs Rep - The RPGs Rep is responsible for supporting GMs running RPGs, helping players find games, and running the larger RPG events of the year . A big part of the role is staying in contact with members, talking with newcomers, and generally keeping an eye on how things are currently running. They are also responsible for growing and distributing the small collection of society RPG resources like sourcebooks and dice. If you have any questions about the role, please speak to Jon Bell either on Facebook, or on Discord (@ Professor_JRC).
LARP Rep - The LARP Rep organizes weekly LARP Adventures, which involves writing a 3-hour quest for the party to undertake. You will also be in charge of editing and updating the UNITY rulebook and managing the players' downtime activities. Although managing equipment is the Quatermaster's role, you will also have a partial responsibility to make sure the kit is presentable and well maintained. For more info speak to Jakub (@Rossendale) on Discord.
X-Wing Tournament
We’re running an X-Wing tournament on Saturday February 8th (Week 5). If you’re interested, get in touch with Jon (Wargames) or sign yourself up on the google spreadsheet here.
D&D Epic - Stardock Under Siege
As a reminder, on Sunday 9th of February (12-7pm), in LIB 1+2, the society will be hosting a large-scale D&D adventure titled "Stardock Under Siege". This is a chance to get involved with a society 'first' and play for the day alongside many other adventurers. Details for ticketing and such will hopefully be out VERY SOON, we’re just waiting on a few bits and pieces from the SU. Keep your eyes peeled on Facebook & Discord as this will hopefully be out before the next newsletter and this event is obviously very soon.
Murder Mystery Night!
Another reminder for the murder mystery night on the Wednesday 19th February (B2.04 from 6-9pm), a good chance to get involved with this sort of thing if you never have before. If you want in, for now please fill in this survey, querying what exactly you'd like to do, and join the event discord (7ANPxC9
).

What happened last week?
Obviously last weekend was Tabletop Weekend! I was there more or less all day Saturday, it was very good fun. Please send in your amusing stories to the highlights channel and I will cover them in this section next week! There was the first society game of ‘Spheres of Influence’. The initial 8 players was rapidly reduced to 7 when one nation's advances were thwarted by an early release of rockets. After a couple of close calls, the Anglosphere and the Southern States were tied on every aspect at the end of the game, bar citizen numbers - even after a last minute betrayal of firing rockets into California. In other news, the volunteering scheme is now up and running with the first in-school session this week. I hope that continues to go well for all those involved!
That’s everything for this week, if you have checked out the new version of the newsletter and would like to see it become permanent, or if you prefer the original, could you please indicate as such on this straw poll. I do hope you have enjoyed the new format, I know I much prefer writing in that way.
Hope you have had an enjoyable week! Until next time.
