AGM2020 - Auxillary Roles
Continuing with the introduction of roles for the upcoming AGM (don’t forget it, Wednesday 26th, 6-8pm), this week we have a little bit about student supportive roles (typically appointed alongside other exec positions) including welfare officer, health and safety officer and equal opportunities officer: Welfare - The Welfare Officer, a role typically taken by a member of the exec in addition to their standard responsibilities, acts as a point of contact within the society for anyone experiencing difficulties or welfare issues. Through a series of training sessions provided by the SU, they are taught how to signpost members in need towards the support available, both provided by the University and externally. The remit of the Welfare Officer also extends to ensuring that the environment within the society is supportive and welcoming of all, and would also be expected to take the lead on instantiating any new SU guidelines on this topic, such as the Code of Conduct created over this past year. If you have any questions, please feel free to message me on discord (@thebruce#4808), the website (TB) or my email (t.bruce@). Health & Safety - Defined by our HSO as a job that"Fills in a sheet and makes sure people don't end up in hospital". Contact Jakub (@Rossendale) on Discord for more information. Equal Ops - The Equal Oppurtunities Officer is an auxiliary Welfare role. Someone in the role should work with the Welfare officer to organise wellbeing events, as well as promoting diversity within the society; as such, they share a lot of their responsibilities. Over the last year, I haven't done much in the name of Equal Ops, but I have attended a number of the Welfare training events which our Welfare officer was also at, or couldn't attend. If you want to know more, let me know on discord or over email.

What happened last week?
Pretty event-filled week, last most weeks for the society. I'm aware that Epic D&D wasn't technically this week but I now have a description of what went down in the defence of Stardock and some pictures! There were 7 DMs, 5 NPCs/Admin staff, and 37 players engaged in the defence of the asteroid Stardock. They fought Illithid and Githyanki, resurrected dragons, sold souls to an undead crone, and chatted with a mole. After three and a half hours of tense play, it all came down to the last five minutes, with multiple teams under assault by Boreworms, two groups valiantly rammed their transports into the Illithid mothership, self destructing in a blaze of glory. Stardock stands and her enemies will think twice before trying again. More noteworthy events can be found in the society's Discord, under the #highlights channel. If you enjoyed Epic D&D, or you didn't, we'd like to hear from you! Please contact the exec involved (mainly Jon: @Professor_JRC) and let us know what you think.
Also last week was the Game Design event, collaborating with Game Design Society. This, like last week, is still running at the moment, and I will thus have more details on what happened next week.
Until next time!
