[High noon, the Wild West. Two figures, mere shadows in the sunlight, standoff.]
Nigel: Howdy.
Finnbar: Howdy.
Nigel: Fancy seeing you here.
Finnbar: What did you expect, some random people off the street?
[Both figures grab their guns, squinting in the sunlight.]
Nigel: This town ain't big enough for those long form newsletters you keep writing.
Finnbar: okay fair enough
Our Discord and Facebook groups
There have been questions about where to find our Discord server - its code is xdDZnYQ
, so you can enter that after clicking "join a server" in the Discord app or on the website. There's a channel for every part of the society, so feel free to discuss anything related to us like how your last one-shot went or neat games being funded on Kickstarter.
If you're looking to plan games however, this is best done on the relevant Facebook groups (linked at the bottom of this newsletter). This is especially pertinent for Wargames (where there is a weekly post about what games people would like to play) and now also Casual Card Games, which is moving to a similar system.
What's happening this week?
There aren't any special events this week (perhaps for the best given how much we did last week!) but we still have our usual weekly events, listed below:
- Wargames Monday 17:00-22:00, B2.01 Science Concourse
- Magic: The Gathering Draft Tuesday 18:00-22:00, B2.02 Science Concourse
- Boardgames Wednesday 14:00-22:00 B2.04/B2.05 Science Concourse
- Casual Card Games Thursday 17:00-22:00 R0.03/R0.04 Ramphal Building
- Live Action Roleplaying Sunday 12:00-17:00 starting in OC0.05 Oculus Building
For RPG locations, contact your GM! If after the Introductory Roleplaying Games session at the weekend you're itching to join a campaign or play more one-shots, have a look at our Events page right here on our website. At time of publishing there are two campaigns with open spaces, so take a look!
What did we do this week?
Welcome Week just happened! And it was a huge success - we had lots of new people join us for wargames, boardgames (with so many people there that we had to commandeer another room), card games and LARP. Many ships were crashed flown around, many resources traded, many lands tapped and many bandits and cultists fought. It was great to see these events be so popular!
Our Introductory RPGs session was a massive hit with over 100 people joining us for one-shot sessions across a variety of systems! We had D&D 5th Edition, Call of Cthulu and many more (including an entirely homebrew system) played, with adventures being cooked up across campus for a variety of different groups and skill levels. I wasn't in every single session so can't comment on them all, but as a GM I found a new... appreciation for how the Mold Earth spell can mess up all of your plans by digging a trench right where the bad guys were about to ambush the party (I'm not even mad). Also one group managed to "slightly bisect vertically" the person they were meant to be buying fuel off of and to be honest I have questions but not the words to articulate them.
The hugest of thanks go out to our exec for making these events such a success, as well as all of the existing members that taught or ran the games they love! It was really great meeting you all - I hope everyone had a lot of fun this week and that we'll keep seeing you at our events. :)
Much love <3

Many bandits and cultists were fought in LARP, and only one of the parties died horribly!
