TERM 3 WEEK 32 NEWSLETTER

Yo, it’s your boy the newsletter. team skull music plays
No time for a longer intro this week as there’s a lot in today’s newsletter - read below for this week’s events and some cool awards we’ve been shortlisted for!

THE EGM - CONSTITUTION EDITION
Wednesday 9th May, 18:00, B2.02 Science Concourse
DÉJÀ VU
I’ve just been in this place before
HIGHER ON THE STREET
And I know it’s my time to go…
… to the EGM, which is happening this Wednesday in B2.02! Please be there, we need quorum to debate and pass this constitution, which we need to exist as a society! Also have a look at the proposed constitution (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-wL_mv4In5iuMNCc_WXtXQJ7jVEmtT61/view) before then and suggest amendments ahead of time either via the Facebook event (https://www.facebook.com/events/362395817613187/) or the forum post (https://www.warwicktabletop.co.uk/forum/thread/171/). These should be in the usual form of “The Society Notes/The Society Believes/The Society Resolves” and reference specific clauses. Please note that there were some minor tweaks to the constitution since last week!

WARGAMES
Monday 17:00 to 22:00, OC1.04 Oculus Building
This week X-wing 2nd Edition was announced, which sent waves (ha, because they release the ships in waves) through the community by introducing The Force, extra factions and actual balance into the game (although we can’t be sure of the latter). Fortunately conversion kits are being released to make sure that all of your old ships aren’t suddenly declared obsolete, so why not come down and play some X-wing 1st Edition before your squads get converted! Or any of the other wargames that we have to offer. As usual, check the Facebook group to see what people are bringing, although there are enough society armies that you can likely turn up and get a game anyway.

MAGIC: THE GATHERING
Tuesday 18:00 to 22:00, B2.01 Science Concourse
I’ve been informed that what I wrote about Magic last week was wrong (“blue-green with lifelink” isn’t really a thing, it turns out), so I asked James Powell to explain Magic to me. He explained which of the five colours of mana is best, so hopefully this week’s description will be more correct. There’s a Dominaria draft happening this week, so grab your yellow lands and have the best time! The usual cost of £8 applies (reduced by £2 for each pack you supply yourself) with final registration by 18:30.

BOARDGAMES
Wednesday 14:00 to 22:00, B2.02 Science Concourse
If you were around late last week you may have heard my sudden shout of “GOAL!” for the most bizarre of reasons - in the game Innovations I found Pelé who conveniently obsoleted Socialism, and when inspired to do great things he was so great that he discovered Genetics, Databases and Globalisation, winning me the game at the last minute. Confused? Same. Come to board games for hopefully similar levels of excitement! Also, the EGM is happening this week, so you’ve got a good excuse to procrastinate with board games.

CASUAL CARD GAMES
Thursday 16:00 to 22:00, B2.02 Science Concourse
Spot the odd one out: Netrunner, Yu-Gi-Oh, Magic: The Gathering and Rhino Hero. That’s right, Rhino Hero, while the best card game in existence, isn’t played at Casual Card Games. But the other three are! So head to B2.02 at the usual time for any of those games (although if someone wants to borrow my copy of Rhino Hero and start the Rhino Hero Pro Tour, I would love to see that happen).

TABLETOP ROLEPLAYING GAMES
Saturday 12:00 to 22:00, Meeting in the Social Sciences Café
This week’s one-shot is Deadlands Reloaded, a cool western/horror RPG system set in the “Weird West” which brings sorcery and gunfighting together. In this session our heroes will be trying to work out what’s happening in the town of Coffin Rock, known for its looming and conveniently-shaped cliff. Unfortunately there’s no more spaces available for this week’s session but it sounds really cool!

Callum has now announced the Week 5 one-shot - it’s Star Wars: Edge of the Empire! Signups are live on the website (https://www.warwicktabletop.co.uk/events/32/) so take a look if you want to do some wars in the stars.

LIVE ACTION ROLEPLAYING
Sunday 12:00 to 18:00, OC0.01 Oculus Building
This week, our heroes tried to get a life totem but decided against it once they found out it would involve killing an innocent person. Gosh, all this totem gathering seems like hard work, maybe they should just give up and let the shadows enslave the world or whatever. And they even told a spirit they’d change a desert into a forest?! Wow, so much work, makes me tired just sitting here and typing in a house I’ve not left all day.

WEEKLY NEWS
As the introduction of this email gave away, award shortlistings have been happening! The society has been shortlisted for the Most Improved Society award for which we give credit to the fantastic work of the outgoing exec - the last year has been a spectacular one for the society with new branding, sponsorship, massive improvements to the running of RPGs, our new website and many collaborations with other societies. Hopefully the society can continue to grow just as much as it did over the last year!

Speaking of improvements to RPGs, Callum, King of RPGs, has been shortlisted for Outstanding Individual Contribution for his frankly impressive dedication to the society - he took what was previously a part of the society that mainly just booked rooms for people and integrated it with the rest of the society, running RPGs at various events and introducing beginners’ events. Over the last year he’s brought RPGs to many new people and run his own campaigns while still helping existing DMs through room bookings, and for that he deserves much thanks! The awards will be given out at the Socs Summer Party on 15th June (see https://www.warwicksu.com/socsawards/).
