TERM 3 WEEK 37 NEWSLETTER

Due to how my exam timetable is, my brain will probably be a mush when this newsletter is sent out so I’m going for the most exciting (read: low effort) of newsletters - make your own newsletter! Essentially, grab a friend, do the Madlibs thing of asking for adjectives/nouns (whatever is in the square brackets, technology isn’t advanced enough for underlines with words under them yet) and then read our your “masterpiece”. Put it in the Facebook comments or website thread if it’s particularly good! Thanks to Hannah for the suggestion. Anyway, before that we’ve got the events:

THE WORLD’S LARGEST BLANKET FORT
Wednesday June 20th, 10:00 to 16:00, Oculus field
The blanket fort thing is quickly approaching, so sign up if you’re interested! More details can be found on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/TAGAROPLE/posts/845530868969248). Please comment on the event so we know how large our team will be and sign up on the website linked in the post.

LASERQUEST VS COMPSOC
Thursday 21st June, 18:00 to 21:00 Laser Quest Conventry
It’s time for the third round in the epic Compsoc vs Tabletop yearly Laser Quest battle! Currently the scores are 1-1, so it’s all to play for in round three - details can be found on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/events/1706377076135843/).

THE EXTENDED WEEKEND O’ FUN
I’ve mentioned this like a million times now, but here they are anyway:

  • END OF TERM QUIZ (Friday 22nd June 18:00 to 20:00, MR2 SU HQ): Let’s get quizzical! I assume quizzical means what I think it does. (https://www.facebook.com/events/219869088818631/)
  • THE EXTRAVAGANZA (Saturday 23rd June 10:00 to Monday 25th June 22:00, starting in H5.45 (Humanities), ending in B2.02 (Science Concourse)): so many games! (https://www.facebook.com/events/391579824689657/).

BORDERLANDS LARP
Saturday 23rd June 12:00 to 16:30, OC0.01 Oculus Building
It’s a LARP with nerf guns. All kit is provided, so you don’t even have to bring your own guns! What a deal. You play a Vault Hunter on the newly settled planet of Eden, and look you get to shoot stuff, it’ll be fun, just please don’t lose all of our nerf bullets :P
Details here: https://www.facebook.com/events/424066048057926/.

END OF YEAR LARP
Sunday 24th June 12:00 to 18:00, Kenilworth Castle?!
The final LARP of the academic year by tradition happens at Kenilworth Castle and this year is no exception! There will be someone at the bus stop at 12:00 with the bus leaving at 12:10. It’s not to be missed - the Master has some conveniently timed plans afoot, how mysterious. Details here: https://www.facebook.com/events/534428573619247/.

Yay, Madlibs time!

WARGAMES
Monday 17:00 to 22:00, OC1.04 Oculus Building
Whether you think [fictional character or concept] is over or underpowered, wargames provides a [adjective] environment for all of your favourite wargames! I’ve heard that [character] is quite [adjective] too which is of course very [adjective]. And wow, they’ve introduced [unimportant Star Wars character] as a pilot for X-wing! I’m very excited to use them in combat. As always, wargames is on, so go there with your [superlative] fleet and get some games of X-wing, Warhammer or whatever the cool wargamers are playing these days.

MAGIC: THE GATHERING
Tuesday 18:00 to 22:00, B2.01 Science Concourse
Draft is still happening! What is the best archetype? Is it [colour] [colour] with [colour]? Or is it [colour] [colour] [colour] and [colour]? This is probably the point where the person you’re asking for all the words from is looking slightly confused, so we’ll pause the rhetorical questions there. Dominaria, £8 reduced by £2 per pack you bring, you’ve heard it all before.

BOARDGAMES
Wednesday 14:00 to 22:00, B2.02 Science Concourse
We’ve got a great new board game about [plural noun] and [noun] where you have to [verb] your [noun] until you’ve [past tense verb] the finish [noun]. Wow, what a(n) [adjective] game, I’m really looking [direction] to playing it. Unfortunately it might not be real, depends what words you chose. Oh well, there are still many [adjective] games available, so come to our Wednesday board games session!

CASUAL CARD GAMES
Thursday 16:00 to 22:00, B2.02 Science Concourse
Did you hear about that mad new Yu-Gi-Oh card? It’s called [name], Legendary [creature] of [place], [noun] of [plural noun], [adjective] Ruler of [concept], and has [a number below 4000] attack points and lets you [weak card game effect]?! Will it make waves in the meta? Will anyone play Yu-Gi-Oh at CCGs? There’s only one way to find out.

TABLETOP ROLEPLAYING GAMES
Saturday 12:00 to 22:00, Meeting in the Social Sciences Café
He’s back and more Callum than ever, that’s right, it’s time for the [adjective] return of Callum’s One-Shot Corner! This week he’s running Time and Temp, which involves being time travelling temporary employees paid to fix past events for clients, what more could you want? Details are on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/groups/WarwickRPGs/201107360515443/).
Otherwise, I’m sure something [adjective] is happening with your campaigns. Maybe you’ve got a [class from an RPG, or at least something believable] who’s throwing spells or [another class] that really wants to get to level [large number] so that it can get some cool tricks like [a made-up name for a spell]. Either way, ask your GM to find out if/when it’s happening this week!

LIVE ACTION ROLEPLAYING
Sunday 12:00 to 18:00, OC0.01 Oculus Building
Last week, the [noun] totem was stolen from our [adjective] heroes, oh no! Fortunately they used [noun] to [superpower] and then stole it back from the [high-value title] [name], [high-value title] of [place]. But the evildoer noticed and [past tense verb associated with fighting] our heroes, but they used the power of [concept] to defeat the [evil noun]. Excitingly, the weather was [weather] last week! That doesn’t stop our LARPers though, they’ll always be ready to LARP, Sundays from midday.

WEEKLY NEWS
Exams continue and events keep being announced so there’s not much to say in the weekly news. But there has been some big news from Fantasy Flight Games - Netrunner’s being discontinued. While this is very sudden (and very badly timed considering how well Netrunner was doing), this does not mean the death of the game - the Netrunner community, especially here in the society, will continue to play Netrunner and try to keep it going! There’s going to be a tournament (announcement Soon™) and drafts and other fun stuff, and in the end new players can proxy cards as much as they’d like because we’d love to introduce you to and see you play such a great game! Our Netrunner players are very approachable and if asked can make some starter decks so we can teach the game to you!
