TERM 1 WEEK 3 NEWSLETTERHello,It’s been great to see so many new faces over the last two weeks but now is make or break time as we see how many of you stick around for the coming year, and judging by how much people seemed to enjoy the last two weeks we hope that’s everyone. If you still haven’t decided then our mega list of upcoming events should be enough to sway you.WEEKEND EVENTS ANNOUNCEMENTBoardgames Weekend Week 5, 10am Saturday to 10pm Sunday, B2.02 Science ConcourseExtravaganza Weekend Week 9, 10am Saturday to 10pm Sunday, B2.02/01 Science ConcoursePreviously we mentioned our twice per term weekend events in week 5 and week 9. And as some of you might have noticed in the comments to last week’s newsletter we can now share the event locations with you. The week 5 event will take place in B2.02 and the week 9 event in B2.02 and B2.01 both of which can be found on the science concourse. So now that you know when and where they are, you just have to find a way to get out of any other plans you may have made for those weekends!WARGAMINGMonday 17:00 to 22:00, OC1.04 OculusLast week’s wargames was incredibly popular with more players there than I have ever seen before. There were numerous epic battles in the 41st millennium as multiple new players turned-up to take advantage of our society armies, as well as sly dog fighting in the skies above Hoth in the X-wing miniatures game, there was even some Warmachine in which I got stomped all over. So if this sounds like your sort of evening then don’t hesitate to pop in as we have everything thing you need to start playing.MAGIC: THE GATHERINGTuesday 18:00 to 22:00, B2.04/05 Science ConcourseThere is going to be some big changes to draft this week! We have decided to provide dedicated price support for our draft pods with a booster pack added to the prize pool per player. Unfortunately this change requires us to up the price per draft to £8 from the usual £7 (although £1 for a booster pack is a pretty good deal!). And if you don’t feel like paying in with cash then why not buy in with 4 booster packs, providing a great use for your prize packs if you don’t have the uncontrollable urge to open them. Hopefully these changes prove popular as we make our second foray into Ixalan draft. BOARDGAMESWednesday 14:00 to 22:00, OC1.08 OculusBoardgames just keeps on growing and growing, we even had to spill out on to the science concourse on Wednesday to get the space to play two rooms and a boom. Other highlights included; the scared copy of Risk finally being opened after spending a year in its shrink wrap with our CCGs rep Roff proving his dominance, and epic tales of knights, dragons, witches, and deadly caves in once upon a time. But even if you have attended for the full 8 hours in weeks 1 and 2 then you will have no doubt only scratched the surface of our mammoth collection. CASUAL CARD GAMESThursday 16:00 to 22:00, WA0.15 Avon Building WestwoodIf you are looking to relax after the high stakes of booster draft (now with prize support!), then Thursday is the night for you. With numerous friendly games of your preferred systems as well as an amazing network of skilled players ready to teach you some new ones, you really don’t have an excuse for not showing up if you are interested in card games in the slightest.TABLETOP ROLEPLAYING GAMESSaturday 12:00 to 22:00, H0.05/H1.03/H5.22 Humanities Building/ Meeting in the Social Sciences CaféBetween this weekend and last hopefully everyone who was interested in playing a one-shot adventure got the chance to, and don’t worry if you didn’t as we are planning more throughout the term so watch this space. We also had 5 campaigns start which will run throughout term, with another starting this Saturday. If you are planning to run a campaign yourself then it’s not too late, so make sure and get it on our websites event page and we’ll even advertise it in a future newsletter if you ask.LIVE ACTION ROLEPLAYINGSunday 12:00 to 18:00, OC0.01 OculusAfter 2 adventures everyone should have a good understanding of what LARP is all about. However, don’t for a second think that you’ve seen it all as we’ve only just scratched the surface with our LARP rep James working hard to make the most exciting adventures possible every Sunday. And if you haven’t tried it yet then feel free to turn up whenever, we’d love to get even more players involved – and since each adventure is self-contained you don’t have to worry about committing for the whole term!WEEKLY NEWSI’d liked to use this week’s news section to highlight what an amazing success start of term has been this year. With record numbers of players across all our events it really is testament to all the hard work our respective reps have put in to organising them, but all that hard work would have been for nothing if it weren’t for all our new and returning members making those events a joy to attend. And with even more planned for the coming term and beyond it’s only going to get better. Thanks for reading,John Humphreys (Communications Officer) J.Humphreys.1@warwick.ac.ukSociety Website: http://www.warwicktabletop.co.uk/Society Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/TAGAROPLE/Board Games Facebook Group:https://www.facebook.com/groups/681573368568623/Card Games Facebook Group:https://www.facebook.com/groups/195335593904501/Wargames Facebook Group:https://www.facebook.com/groups/276814799016749/LARPs Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2204222674/RPG Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/136276596998520/
