π¨ Good at painting minis?
The Painting Competition is designed for people to have fun and celebrate the painting skill of our members or even just provide an excuse to slowly shrink that pile of shame! Although there will be a winner, it is a friendly competition and members are encouraged to discuss and share tips to help everyone improve and enjoy the process!
Each competition runs a theme which may help provide inspiration when choosing a model to paint. Themes are completely optional and no preference will be given either way in the judging. In this competition the theme is "Criminal", perhaps an undercover agent or perfectly adapted for a unique role, this model/unit is an expert in their field.
In the run up to the Competition you can paint whatever model you like, be it Wargs, Borgs, RPGs or even CCGs and Larp if you ca!. All you need is a currently unpainted (or only primed) model and the will to paint! To reiterate, this is more about having fun and learning from each other, so please feel free to participate even if you don't have much confidence in your skills! Have fun with it!
What are the core rules of the competition?
- You must paint an unpainted model. If the model is primed (even with a zenithal or coloured primer) that is okay. In the case of prepainted models (such as X-Wing or Armada) that's okay, however please paint a significant portion of the model.
- The model must be fully painted by the day of the competition. None of the bare plastic can be showing, if it has a base that is not transparent it must be painted. (If the base is prepainted the model can be submitted but the base will be ignored)
- The model must have at least three separate colours. All models must have a minimum of three colours on them (this includes the base).
- The model must be a single "unit". You're more than welcome to paint a model of any size or shape or a group of such, but the submission must be a cohesive set.
- The model cannot be terrain. This is to make the job of judging the models easier as terrain often requires slightly different skills and techniques.
- There are two tiers to enter into, Novice and Intermediate! These will have separate winners to make sure that nobody is intimidated from trying out!
Novice Tier - For people with little to no experience painting models whatsoever, if you're wanting to give painting a try or get around to painting that army you've had for aeons you're welcome to here. (If you have extensive experience doing physical painting, please sign up for Intermediate) Intermediate Tier - For those who do have experience with painting or even do it professionally, you can put your all (or as much as you're comfortable) into a passion project.
Judging will be completed in person at Wargames in Week 10 by James (Quartermaster & all round lovely guy!).
When the official event is up anyone who wishes to join can join the painting competition Discord server! This will be used to log your entries, but it will also include places for asking for advice and giving updates if you'd like to!
Keep an eye out in the Discord server if you're interested in joining!

π What happened last week? π
Intro to RPGs!
Back again for term 2! A big thank you to RPG rep Ethan for running this event and all the wonderful GMs & players for supporting it!
The Wild Sheep Chase
A list of silly things the party did upon infiltrating the wizardβs lair: - tried to sneak past in armour that has disadvantage on sneaking - threw rations as a form of distracting animals which where just polymorphed guards and thus - werenβt stupid enough to fall for it - killed my BBEG with a near-max damage guiding bolt before i could unleash its phase 2 proceeded to fail all their investigation checks so hard that i had to have the npc roll to investigate - got the rescued wizard to sign an IOU contract
Hunt for the Thessylhydra (AGAIN!)
According to GM Jupiter "someone brought a gun to a Thessylhydra Fight, my players also solved all my riddles in Record Time"!
Help! Supervillains keep blowing up my school! (Masks!)
A bunch of teenage superheroes fought off a giant mechanical spider and Mechasaurus Rex, but by far the most difficult part was getting through Mr Brick's maths class!
One's a (Housing) Company, Three's a Crowd
My game finished in a Phoenix Wright-esque courtroom battle, and peaked with the playing of the Benny Hill theme during the trashing of a superstore!
Honey heist
My players set fire to HoneyCon 2024, used a stationary delivery van as a battering ram twice and turned a group of rival bears against their boss, the Queen of All Bees who was later kidnapped. Somehow they failed to uproot a tree.
Kids on Bikes: Lumina falls!
In Lumina Falls the gang thought they were gonna get a cute school drama type game. Instead they got a creepy little girl that became a shadow demon. The brute character then proceeded to roll THIRTY ONE to punch the shadow. It worked perhaps a little too wellβ¦
Personally, I think the best roll of the game was the party's himbo exploding 3 times to do some expert research on waterfalls! Not that I'm biased here
Last week in LARP:
In what could be called "foreshadowing", Ben, running an adventure on their own for the first time ever said "this adventure should have no major impacts on the rest of the setting and be fairly self-contained to this week." Oh how wrong they were...
The party travelled into the countryside of Lupanum, investigating a mysterious set of disappearances and also some totally unrelated zombie attacks. No way at all these could be related. After dealing with the usual amount of annoying Lupans/random spirits/Lupan mortician-ventriloquists (don't ask), Crazy Larry (still best you didn't ask), they met four witches, who they immediately attempted to double-cross. This ended poorly for the party, who were forced to improvise a solution to the cause of the invulnerable-zombie-making-fish-worm (named Flob). The solution they found was certainly innovative, but came at a high cost...
Extra Bonus End Bit
Adventures of Strawberry Jam!
Special member submission this week!
Big thank you to Anna & Izzy (see finger) for this weeks Jam!
He's only slightly angry about losing card games!
Stay snazzy!
