[We pan to a job interview in a small, dark room with an interviewer sitting opposite a familiar figure. The interviewer is short, relatively short hair, wearing an oversized jumper. They look incredulously at some papers while sat on a throne of five shark toys. The figure is tall and wearing a purple hoodie, grasping a single shark toy.]
Interviewer: So, you're the new secretary, huh?
Finnbar: You got me, detective.
Interviewer: No I'm an interviewer, get it right. Regardless, I've got a few questions for you.
Finnbar: But I just won an election, I've earned this position.
Interviewer: Not until I say you have, punk. Now, describe yourself in three words.
[Finnbar thinks for a moment, their brow furrowed. Tension rises.]
Finnbar: Confused, panicked, relatable.
[The interviewer stares right at Finnbar. They pause.]
Interviewer: You're hired!

The Termly Quiz (OC0.01 Oculus Building, 6-8pm Friday)
Week nine is finally here and oh no I've got so many deadlines... well they're going to have to wait because the quiz is on the horizon. It's our usual conundrum-based affair with ridiculous quiz rounds and excellent prizes (including some familiar-looking trophies from The Pocket Workshop) - I've been asked to keep Callum's round secret but it's very, very good, and there's even a round from me. Madness. Hype yourself up (and tell your friends) via signing up to this Facebook event, if that's your thing.
End of Term 2 Tabletop Weekend (12pm Saturday - 10pm Sunday, MR2 SUHQ and B2.02 Science Concourse)
Don't let the mad rooms put you off - this is absolutely the place to be spending your weekend! Featuring class acts such as boardgames and tabletops, Tabletop Weekend is the prime choice for procrastinating thirty four hours of fun gaming times! We'll be in MR2 (SUHQ) from midday to 5pm on the Saturday, and B2.02 (Science Concourse) for the rest of the time - here's a useful flowchart to help:
Also there's a Facebook event.
What's happening this week?
LARP has changed rooms as the Tabletop Weekend will be in B2.02 on Sunday, but otherwise things are the same. Except there's no AGM stopping board games, which is definitely a success.
- Wargames Monday 17:00 to 22:00, B2.01 Science Concourse
- Magic: The Gathering Draft Tuesday 18:00 to 22:00, B2.02 Science Concourse
- Boardgames Wednesday 14:00 to 22:00, LIB1 (Library Ground Floor)
- Casual Card Games Thursday 17:00 to 22:00, R0.12 Ramphal Building
- Live Action Roleplaying Sunday 12:00 to 17:00 starting in B2.04 Science Concourse
As always, the Events Page is your friend when it comes to RPGs - currently Tim's usual one shot isn't up, but I'm sure it will be soon enough!
What happened last week?
Just in case you'd not noticed all of the advertising and the bit where we talked about the society for three hours during boardgames, we had the AGM last week. Many (many) motions were proposed, amended and generally debated, and the new exec were installed like a bittersweet software update, sadly saying goodbye to those exec ending their term [Editor's Note: what]. Fortunately we have a new exec for you, who are as follows:
Callum Marvell - President
Benjamin McRae - Treasurer
Finnbar Keating - Secretary
Joshua Smith - Boardgames Rep
Jon Cheah - New New New Rob (Wargames Rep)
Daniel Grieve - Draft Rep
Ellie Kidd - CCGs Rep
Jonathan Bell - RPG Rep
Thomas Bruce - Web Admin
Timothy Smith - Quartermaster
Jakub Hajdus - LARP Rep
Luke Scriven (In absentia) - Comms Officer
The biggest thanks go to the existing exec for their hard work this term, with special thanks going to two exec in particular. James Sampson-Foster, our Returning Officer for the AGM and Wargames Rep for five years is stepping down after a long term of posting "hey, it's that time again" week after week, his words echoing the halls of the Wargames Facebook Group like a friendly ghost (and like other work too of course, just that's an important part of his legacy). Nigel Heathcote also deserves thanks as our loyal President for three years now, being an excellent face of the society and getting a lot done.
Many motions were also debated, leading to a number of constitution changes as we try to cut it down slightly, but more importantly a new mascot was elected, the inimitable Timothy Hutchinson. It is a very well-deserved title - he's a wonderful member of the society and Timforce, running his weekly D&D one-shots and always being around to help at events (and eat the spare food...) even though he's not an exec member!
Other motions discussed included the lending of LARP gear, roles on the Discord server, new appointed exec roles (Graphic Design Officer and Holiday Rep), @Timforce on Discord and being clearer about how exec meetings work. To put the last point into action, a reminder - any member can attend our exec meetings! If you'd like to be there to discuss a certain point or would like your concerns discussed, simply talk to a member of exec - they will let you know where the meeting is or will bring your thoughts forward. James Sampson-Foster has written up the AGM in full, and you can find the notes for this here.
In non-AGM news, we played the games bought from Zatu! Millennium Blades has heavy money and I love it. Each Millennium Dollar bill is actually ten pieces of paper attached together and it's ridiculous. Rollplayer was also played and some crazy characters were concocted, as pictured below. Zatu have also posted a blog post about us, which you can find here. Finally, I've been informed that in a Magic game, a player took 3 x 2^23 (that's 25165824) damage because of some mad creature that doubles its power per successive head in a coin toss, and someone got very, very lucky. You can be as lucky as that coin - just comment "stay strong, coin" in the Facebook comments, otherwise you'll be cursed for like six years or something.
Much love <3,
Finnbar Keating (Communications Officer)
