Hello, welcome to this week's rather hurried newsletter. I'm writing this on a tablet, on the very basic form of the website with no graphics, just the hyperlinks etc. and thus without the ability to look at the formatted version. So firstly I apologise for any errors in the newsletter, although I'll likely edit them out just before publishing, and secondly apologise for the rather brief newsletter this week, as mentioned last week exams take priority.
Announcements
New Discord Channels
For any of you that do use the society's Discord server you will notice there are some new channels:
-
Off-Topic - Now separate from #shitposting for just general, calm discussion of non-society things.
-
Shitposting - As above, this is now separate from the off-topic channel and is to be used for basically anything random and 'spammy'.
-
Highlights - The channel I mentioned last week for sending in your news to be added to the newsletter. This is now live and I'll begin looking at this from now so please post news for me! :)
-
External Announcements - New channel for the announcing of events and other things that aren't run/managed by the society but that you may find interesting.
Draft Rep
With the stepping-down of our previous draft rep, Ares is currently acting as our temporary draft rep. For any draft related queries or issues please get in touch with them. We are as a result currently looking to appoint a new draft rep. This will be done in the same way as all of the exec are appointed, through an application and quick talk at the next general meeting (see next announcement). You should be able to start making applications for this soon!
EGM - AGM Mk. II
As there are multiple factors which require society wide recognition, namely the new draft rep and editing of the constitution. We have decided to run a second 'AGM' to discuss these matters. This will be on the 19th of June, time TBC.
Notifications Settings
You are now able to edit what things you will be notified for on the society website, although OBVIOUSLY you'll wanna keep tuned in to my newsletters. This can be done when logged in to the tabletop website, go to "notification settings" on the left side bar and set if you desire different notifications from the society via E-mail for newsletters, events, DMs etc.
Last Week's Meeting
The minutes for last week's exec meeting can be found at this link. Next meeting will be on Thursday 23rd May, 2-3pm in S0.17. Once again let a member of the exec know if you wish to attend.
What's happening this week?
Nothing changing from last week's schedule:
- Wargames - Monday 5-10pm, R0.03/4
- Magic: The Gathering Draft - Tuesday 6-10pm, B2.02
- Board Games - Wednesday 2-10pm, B2.01
- Casual Card Games - Thursday 5-10pm, B2.02
- LARP - Sunday 12-5pm, B2.02
RPGs are, as usual, being run at the discretion of the DMs and more info can be found on them on the events page.
What happened last week?
The society did a 'Eurovision' viewing night on Saturday. I myself was away and couldn't attend but by the sounds of it, it was a pretty chill evening of boardgames, laughing at funny costumes and appreciating the occasional good song. The society's judging panel seemed to prefer Norway's and Denmark's acts and I'd probably agree. For those of you that didn't watch, yes, the UK came last... again...
Sol's 'Adventures into Middle Earth' campaign had a very very very very very very... (You get the point) lengthy tale to tell. I really can't do it justice, but the short hand is a brilliant tale of stealth, goblins, booze and dumb luck in a session that ran 3.5hrs longer than planned. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this, also being the first use of the new highlights channel. If you wanted a read, which I recommend you do, the full ESSAY can be found on the highlights channel, I'll pin it for the week.
We also lost one of our newer LARP members, Alan, in the session this week. He heroically rushed into a fight against the villain of the session and his life came to an abrupt but swift end. You may now find his character's head mounted on the mantelpiece of Kirané's evil lair I presume.
Thanks for reading, once again sorry for the more rushed nature this week, hopefully you're now aware of all the things you need to be aware of in the society.
Much Love,
Luke Scriven (Communications Officer)
