The barony of Ebenford, like most civilisation on the continent of Anderum and, indeed, the world of Kvaern, exists as an island of order amongst an ocean of chaotic wilderness - most notably the Barbwood, an arc of dense forest bordering the barony on the northern and eastern sides. The city of Ebenford, known as the Ringed City for its now-ruined layers of defensive walls, has been the seat of power for the noble house of Kenway for five generations - Lord and Lady Kenway are now dead. Their children, too, are dead - the entire house murdered in a raid on the Ringed City's keep. In the ensuing turmoil, the ex-mercenary Lord Fendel has taken power - but many locals still refuse to call him "Baron". His recently appointed Knights of the Hunt enforce the rule of law and institute his authority. Tensions between the barony and the surrounding wilderness are at an all-time high. The orcs, the human Han tribes of the Barbwood, and the other random smatterings of creatures hostile to human settlement are all suspects in Baron Kenway's murder, and Fendel has made it clear that avenging the dead baron is to be his first order of business.
This is a long-form homebrew campaign I've been working on during the months since my last campaign ended - compared to that game, this is a much more grounded, classic fantasy campaign. I tend to run a relatively old school style game with a hex-based map and a sandboxy approach - character death is often possible, but is very rarely likely. Don't let this put you off - players new to D&D, or RPGs in general, are more than welcome! I hope to run a "Session Zero" where we create characters (probably level 3, but I'm flexible) and talk expectations, communication, ground rules etc. on Wednesday the 11th in the FAB - we might have to postpone depending on how many players we get by then. From then on, I hope we can meet every Wednesday in the FAB, somewhere between 4 and 10 pm. Feel free to ask me any questions, I'm on the discord under the name "hotel".
