I had no idea what to call this newsletter then two different RPG events about doing heists and being outlaws in somewhat magical cities went up within less than an hour of each other.

💰 RPG Heists!!!
We have two RPGs just put up on the website-a Dusk City Outlaws one shot this Friday run by Nathan, and a Blades in the Dark campaign run by Lewis running over the summer and next year. Both of these systems are Extremely Good for doing heist movie things - if you're remotely interested in the sound of planning out heists then watching all your preparations slowly collapse into chaos under the weight of complications I'd super recommend signing up. Don't just take my word for it, here's a quick summary of Blades in the Dark:
Blades in the Dark is an RPG set in the haunted city of Doskvol, in which players will take on the roles of criminals, forming a gang and attempting audacious heists and crimes, making coin, fencing goods, and earning reputation in the city. No knowledge of Blades in the Dark is needed, just willingness to commit extravagant crimes in a city of ghosts.
and of Dusk City Outlaws:
Put simply, Dusk City Outlaws is "heist movie the rpg". The system is based around a group of loveable rogues, villains you can root for coming together as a crew to pull off a job within the city of New Dunhaven. The system is d100 based and has a lot of flexibility as it is more reliant on the player's descriptions of the legwork each crew member undergoes to prepare for the heist. This oneshot will be on the funeral job: "This Job involves stealing a ceremonial necklace from the dead body of a noble without the family noticing"

💭 What happened last week? 💭
The Dune game was won by an Atredies-Harkonnen alliance! Now, it's been a while since I've read Dune, but I'm a solid 20% sure that makes about as much sense as a Rebellion-Empire or Imperial-Chaos alliance, so credit to the level of diplomatic skill that must have been required to pull that off.
From people who know what they're talking about: "James missed the coordinate range to give this pilot a barrel roll before doing the turn, resulting in Lt. Lorrir flying right into an asteroid and blowing up." I'm sure this means something specific to X-Wing players, but here's my completely uneducated transcription of what happened narratively:
"Ok so you want me to fly straight ahead into this asteroid field cool boss got it"
"No, I want you to get out of the way of those asteroids and then fly straight ahead"
"What was that sorry boss I couldn't hear you over the sound of how-"
[The rest of the file is cut off by the sound of a spaceship crashing]
The Strixhaven post-pre-release this weekend went well - Congrats to Sam for winning through the power of "opening faithless looting" and probably good deck design too I'm only working off Ares' reports.
Extra Bonus End Bits
We've got an exec meeting next week, time TBC, going over the holidays and our plans for next term. Once we know when it is, you will too, through the wonders of telepathy and the announcements channel.
Some more RPG ideas, in case you need to distract your party for twenty minutes or so while you desperately try to plan for the consequences of their actions
- feesh - a glorious fish that makes everyone (yes, including its owner) want to pay money to it (credit to finnbar for this one)
- An invisible cloak - it can't hide anything so you're still completely visible while wearing it, but nobody can tell it's there. Uses include: creating extremely confusing noises, making something that can't be picked up easily for traps, the world's worst fashion accessory.
- Ring of Ghost Vision - when worn every ghost within a half mile radius can see your ring through any obstructions. You don't get to see them back, though.
Wash your hands, stay inside, and come play some games with us (online) 💛
