The timetable actually has future events in the future now!
❗ Announcements ❗
Through the power of organising things at the Exec Meeting, we now have dates for some big events we're doing at the end of term three! In chronological order, these are:
❓: The Quiz
Friday 25th June, 6 to 9pm (nice), now with infinity % more questions written by me! Come along - it's a lot of fun and you don't need to know anything to participate (seriously, I spent all of last quiz writing an essay on the gender cube for the bonus round because I know where my priorities lie, and we still won). That said, if you do want a bit of an advantage reading the newsletter might help with my round!
📻: Tabletop Radio
Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th of June, our big charity stream. (I don't know why we called a twitch stream tabletop radio but I wasn't around last year to intervene so here we are?) . Highlights from last year (most of which can be found here) include Monsters On A Cruise Ship (my first real interaction with the society), a TED talk about frogs, and general tabletop nonsense. - here's last year's schedule if you want a more in depth look. Also, go thank Finnbar for their top tier graphics work on this, it deserves limitless praise.
🎲: Tabletop Extravaganza
Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th of July. Your one stop excuse to run any really long board game or just generally organise anything that couldn't quite fit in our normal events due to time and exams. If you've ever wanted to play twilight imperium starting at one twilight and ending at the next... that sounds like a bad idea but technically if you had to do it here would be your opportunity? Basically, this is a chance for larger events to happen, so leave at least a bit of room in your calendar around this time if that could interest you (here's a hint - it probably does).
So far, we have an X-Wing tournament, and as other events get organised I can advertise them here (PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ORGANISE THEM IN ADVANCE AND POST AN EVENT ON THE WEBSITE - it means you can be sure you'll get players and get any prep or teaching the game done beforehand, and also I can't advertise retroactively because Ike said we can't afford a society time machine.)
❔ What's happening this week? ❔
- Monday 5-10pm: Online Wargames
- Tuesday 6-10pm: Online Draft - Ultimate Masters - free! (as it's online) - you must sign up here to take part
- Wednesday 5-10pm: Online Board Games
- Thursday 5-10pm: Online CCGs
Remember, you can always find an up-to-date timetable of what's going on on our website's Schedule page, and you can see special events (including RPGs) and sign up to them via our Events page.
💭 What happened last week? 💭
James seems to have followed the basic principle of my netrunner strategy advice - just be lucky - and applied it to X-Wing. Yet more proof that my genius is infinite and all consuming. (I mean, ignoring the bit where the other ship apparently survived these 5 crits but who needs evidence when you have the hannah collins strategy! guaranteed to win at least some games maybe!)
In Nemesis, some heroic aliens, despite their valiant efforts, failed to protect their nest by wiping out some measly fleshlings (ok technically one of them was an android but ssshhhh). The hive queen could not be reached for comment, but it is our understanding that she is extremely disappointed with these results.
In preparation for tabletop radio and because OBS is a tool far more powerful than anything humans should be allowed to wield, Nathan has created the Ideal Gamer Setup. He is apparently in talks with twitch to sell it to the platform as a new default overlay, and is rumoured to be getting about £420 million out of the deal.
The exec meeting happened within not entirely without the scheduled time in spite of the universe's best efforts. Meeting notes are here. tl:dr we organised things! most of them have been announced earlier on in the newsletter.
Extra Bonus End Bit
More! Magic! Items! From the goblins that bought you the Dogslicer and Horsechopper comes the Goosereaper! A blade filled with the visceral rage of ten thousand geese, guaranteed to lay your enemies to waste. Side effects may include compulsive honking, an all-consuming desire to cause problems on purpose, a loss of the concept of consequences, and emitting a general aura of fear.
Apathy paste! Tired of people commenting on how impolite it is to wear plate armour to a formal dinner? Want to bring your greatsword to the local inn? Your wizard getting in trouble at customs because they have no idea what's actually in their focus pouch? Simply cover your equipment in apathy paste, and pass unnoticed through crowds, guards, and teleportation circle security. (We offer no guarantees that apathy paste will continue functioning if you try and use anything covered in it. By using apathy paste you forfeit the rights of any equipment thusly protected and ownership of your soul to demon stuff inc.)
Wash your hands, stay inside, and come play some games with us (online) 💛
