"Hey, you. You're finally awake. You were trying to cross the border, right? Walked right into that University ambush, same as us"
Hello, and welcome to the newsletter! I'm your host, Hannah (she/they/fae pronouns), and the Communications and Operations Officer of the society, which means I'm in charge of writing this newsletter that goes out every Monday of term time. Most of the time, I succeed! Reading the newsletter is a good way to hear about any important announcements, to know what events are coming up both this week and further afield, as well as a way to look back over what happened last week.
"This sounds amazing! Just one question, Hannah!" I hear you hypothetically say because it's convenient for the structure of the newsletter, "how can we find the newsletter each week?"
I'm glad you hypothetically asked, reader. There are a few ways! First, there's a link at the bottom of the newsletter - just boop that to subscribe. Second, you could join our discord, and then head over to the roles channel to get notified whenever I post the newsletter.
❗ Announcements ❗
🎲 Intro to RPGs
If you've signed up to Intro to RPGs on the website, make sure you're also signed up to a specific RPG! You can find them on our events page with the tag "Intro to RPGs" - If my technical wizardry (read - copying a link) was successful, that link should only show intro to RPGs events.
😷 Covid safety and in person events
We are, at present, planning to run in-person events during term one (and that timetable should be in next newsletter), however we have a set of rules in place that we require anyone participating in our events to follow - if you do not you will be asked to leave
-
We will be mandating that masks are worn by all participants along with social distancing in accordance with government advice. If you do not wear a mask, if you do not abide by social distancing rules, and/or if you do not practise proper sanitation, you will be told to leave our event.
-
If you feel ill or are displaying any COVID-19 symptoms, please stay at home. We won't be chasing you up if you miss an event or anything like that - we'd much rather you got better and didn't infect anyone else! Plus, we're likely to do some events online as well, or at least be in a position where you can organise an impromptu game or two online.
-
We ask that you wash and sanitise your hands before, during and after your play session. We will endeavour to provide hand sanitiser as well as disposable gloves if you would like to wear those while playing. Furthermore, we ask you not to eat during your play session.
-
Tables will be sanitised after people have finished playing on them, ready for new players to sit down and play.
✔️ Membership
If you want to support the society, you can get membership! It's not a requirement to attend any of our events, but it is a way to support the society, and if you do you get a cool d6 with the society logo. Also, if you want to become a society exec, server moderator, and vote in our elections or AGMs, then you'll need to have membership. If you want to, click here to buy membership.
🎡 Socs Fair
We'll be at the Socs Fair on Monday 27th, from 11am to 4pm, if you want to check out what we're about and talk to exec in person. If you can't make it, however, feel free to ask any questions on our discord. We're also at the Returners' Socs Fair on Sunday from 12 to 6, if you're a second year who's missed out last year because of COVID.

💭 What happened over the holidays? 💭
A lot of our events continued online in some capacity, as they do most holidays, and while there's too much for me to dig through the highlights channel to pick my favourites a lot of cool things happened.
Extra Bonus End Bit
I spent most of Saturday learning too much about horses, and have found a new job in case this whole getting a degree thing doesn't pan out - Horse Namer. It turns out you can just name horses literally whatever. Examples of horse names you can find on Wikipedia include Engima, The Sphinx, Wisdom, and Gravity.
Wash your hands, stay safe, and come play some games with us (online or in person!!!!) 💛
